youre right. It was a period when I had more hassle with City fans than away fans! (Even when we were away!)

Just explains he supported his local team rather than Chelsea. But you knew that already.

And Lydon is a massive Arsenal fan. Which I think is the same explanation

(I was going to jokingly ask which mobs modern 'pop stars' are running with nowadays...until I realised I didn't really know any of their names!)

It's odd that he never found time to write about it at the time. Perhaps Bernie and Joe veto'ed it cos it was a bit too unhip.

Are you talking about 79-80-81 time?
There was an ongoing N Soul v punker conflict in town in the late 70s, with the Transvaal Boys usually on the backfoot,

Turf wars were common, there was an East Hull/West Hull eggchasing thing going on at the time culminating in Good Friday brick throwing at Boulevard, also certain estates went trendy/pre-casual before others, Boothferry were noted early casuals but so was Bransholme and Greatfield who fought with predominantly skin Bilton Grange/Wingfield but were both Rovers. Mods & Rockers lingered longer in the suburbs. Town could be mad, far more nutters around then.

Yes it was Boothferry v Hessle on a regular and large scale basis.

Last bus at 11, all into bus station, with a 63C/73C coalition versus 43 Greatfield .

Before cctv, and when Hull nightlife was lively from Thursday to Sunday, out of town stag parties would stay overnight and inevitable large scale squabbles would break out down Carr Lane and surrounding areas.

The snowflakes of today would not believe how 'vibrant' the nightlife was back then: everywhere was rammed with long queues to get in.

    Why is it odd?

You may be right though I always thought he was the odd one out in the Clash which may explain why they kicked him out.

I was being sarcastic. It was totally expected. You had Bernie and Joe with their radical chic sloganeering and studied situationism . No place in the repertoire for simple conformist stuff like supporting your local football team.
So rebellious that they signed with CBS.

Not sure what you expected, they were just a band. They made some good records, some poor ones and went on a few demonstrations.

I only visited it in its twilight years as a sneaky 16 year old, but White Room, down the road from Spiders, was amazing. Loved every visit and the manager was a legend. Then, one day, we turned up and it was shut. Then the next month it was a house.

Anybody know what happened to it?

Some gigs I saw in Hull during the 70s. 10cc, Kevin Coyne, Curved Air, Alan Hull, Lindisfarne, Be Bop Deluxe and the bands that played the Magic Garden on a Sunday evening.
