**** idea. It's essentially just an extra play off round isn't it?

Oh at least that sounds better than the other idea they spoke about. Which had 16 top seeds then the other 32 played off in the host country for right to join the group stage which then progressed as normal. So 16 nations will would only have got one game <doh>

This is slightly better I suppose... though how long are they expecting it to last now?

Not keen, but it will make FIFA lots of money...

It's long and boring enough as it is, if it means less qualifiers though then that might be a good thing.

No idea if it'll be longer but the minimum games under the new proposals was 80 games and the maximum 88.

I think it's a great idea ... England finish third in a group containing Burkina Faso and Nepal and can come home before the expectations of the deluded reach seismic proportions again... we can then settle down and watch some real footie <ok> ...

Apparantly, there was a proposal for an increase to forty teams on the table with sixteen in the knockout stages.

I can only assume that would have been eight groups of five, top two qualify.

Would have been better than groups of three with top two progressing which offers very little incentive to top teams to go for the win.

Would have been better if only top team progress in groups of three

But still only a maximum of seven games for finalists (and playoff teams)
