Do you think it should have?

Not everything is as black and white as you seem to like to make it.

Any road up, there seems to be more and more of it washing up on the coast...

If you still take illegal drugs, then yes they shouldn't have been put in your care. For the same reason they wouldn't put adopted children with alcoholics. There's no grey areas in this as far as I'm concerned - and probably for social workers.

If you drive at 90mph on the motorway (as many people do these days) and you're pulled over by the police, how do you justify your actions? Seems that if you don't get caught, it isn't a problem. Is that the same attitude some people take towards drugs? If you're caught and arrested, is it still 'just a line'? If you have to explain to family, friends and co-workers why you're in court, is it worth it? I suppose it's personal accountability and the argument could be that drugs are taken by one person whereas dangerous driving affects others.

Correct, any parents, foster or otherwise, have a strict duty of care towards children they have to adhere to, otherwise it constitutes abuse.

What's that, druggie? She told me, afterwards, that he had been a druggie (her term, said with quite some feeling) for over a year, he was 15yrs old when he hung himself.

How about the 40yr old who started on coke when he was about 37 and got into a cool group of young professionals who buttered him up as he was a tad handy and good to have around.

He didn't have the self-control and was soon snorting or popping more than he could afford. Before long he was dealing, he owed the bad lads over £10k. The pressure made him take more, his missus threw him out - no kids, fortunately - he took more again. His debt grew, he was taking what he should have been selling. The bad lads weren't happy.

He disappeared, the bad lads - you know, the ones who drive round in black Range Rovers - burst into the pub (not mine, I'd sold it) looking for him. Believe me, this was serious, I hope lads like these don't ever come looking forcyou or your kids like this, it's all too easy ...

I did some digging and discovered he had himself sectioned in an attempt to keep safe.

He came out, some of us tried to help him, I had a pint with him the tea time of Halloween 2014, he said see you later. His Missus came home from seeing friends to find him hanging from her bannister.

I see the lads, driving the BMWs, everybody's mate. No jobs, just 2 mobiles and lots of time in their allotted boozers and carparks. It won't end happy for them. FACT.

I could take you back to the 80's, but I'll let you continue with your feeble piss-taking instead, I just don't get your humour, it's worse than OLM's.

Sadly, I know exactly the blokes you are talking about. Some of them went to school with me.

Wow, that brought a tear to my eye. I've changed my position immediately.

I'll now spread the word to other internet forums on why drug use is bad to convert more people to this noble cause.

Good for you, do whatever you wish. Am I supposed to be impressed? Why do I get the feeling you only talk to people like this on the internet?

I give up on this thread. I was holding on to a faint hope (ridiculous I know) that you might provide some answers, rather than just more questions. How much clearer can I be. I WANT TO SEE CHANGE.

How much crime is drug related? Not just supplying, but crimes to fund drug use etc? What's the cost to the UK for Court trials, prisons, social workers etc etc?

What answers have you got? Come on, lead from the front; many of us, probably all, have said we want change, why are you so different?

Drug trafficking costs this country £10bn a year. A government study was done in 2003 that claimed that Class A drug offences cost this country £15.4bn a year. So loads.
