You can buy cannabis legally in plenty of US states , here it is an illegal drug

That doesn't tell me anything about how harmful or not it is

Apparently there have been masses of 'beachcombers' on the coast.

    Strictly standing room only...<whistle>

It used to be legal here.
At the same time the only place to buy olive oil was a chemist.
    How very odd.

I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis and chronic Osteo-arthritis.

Apparently Cannabis would be pretty useful as a pain reliever.

Alcohol doesn't help - except I can knock myself to sleep with it. In fact, it exacerbates the symptoms.

    ****ing stupid government and laws...

? What generalisation? I didn't say all drugs, or that they only have a dark side. How specific do you expect conversations about drugs to be?

Yep. This echoes something I said way back towards the start of this thread, about the fact that many laws on the use of substances are based on out of date reasoning and this has resulted in a hotch-potch of legislation.

I went on a tour of a gin distillery yesterday, Bombay Saffire. They had a timeline for gin production. In the 17th century gin was killing the inner cities https://www.diffordsguide.com/encyclopedia/1058/bws/history-of-gin-1728-1794-londons-gin-craze

This highlights one thing, regulation. A sane person would expect regulation because of the damage, but as the article describes, it was in fact due to a shortage of grain!

Apparently, Eire has recently made legal Cannabis for medical reasons. I don't know the details, though.

It's also legalised in Nederland and decriminalised in Deutschland, España and Österreich.

Yeah, their abortion laws are horrific and put women in danger but they have a less draconian approach to weed than the insidious Angelcynn so all is well.

During the 19th century it was reckoned that drinking gin was a safer bet than taking a chance of getting a disease from London's rotten water supply, and many people acted upon this!
