    Official club statement...

Middlesbrough Football Club can today confirm the departure of Head Coach Aitor Karanka. Following discussions, both parties have agreed that it is in the best interests of the club to make this change.

The club would like to thank Aitor for all his hard work over the past three-and-a-half years and for the success we've had during that time. We wish him all the best for the future.

Aitor Karanka said: "I'd like to thank Middlesbrough for a wonderful opportunity and the players, staff and all the people at the club who I have worked with. I'd also like to thank the fans for their support. This club will always hold a special place for me and I wish everyone connected with Middlesbrough Football Club the very best for the future."

Steve Agnew will step up from his role as assistant Head Coach to take control of first team affairs with immediate effect.

That sounds like left properly this time rather than just sulking off for a week

Didn't really see that one coming, I know they are in free fall but I thought they would stick with him.

They play Man U on Sunday.

Personally I think it's a good time to play them. 3 games in 7 days with suspensions and injuries taking their toll.

Now add in the 'sacked manager' effect on Boro's players and all of a sudden they might fancy their chances to kick start
    their season again.

Ranieri in? Or Big Nige? I always thought he'd go there, think he was captain in his day.

McClaren would be great. Think he's destined to get them relegated. Terrible football manager.

Hopefully they're too far into freefall to turn this one around.

    They'll still probably go down.
Then Agnew will be move on.
Then they'll start looking for a proven manager with Championship success

    like Aitor Karanka...

I think Pearson will probably be favourite.

That's two ex-City assistants who'll be managing clubs in the Premier League this weekend.

They must have someone lined up. Why wait 5 days after the last match and a couple before the next to make a change with no real opportunity to do anything different. If they did it straight after the last match with no plan B you could understand?

I'd be happy with them getting any of them except Nige or Hodgson.
