    EDITION NO. 5 MARCH 1979

THE COMITTEE THANK THE 22 PSYCHOS WHO TRAVELLED WITH US TO OXFORD ON OUR LAST TRIP. A 53 SEATER WAS BOOKED SO DUE TO MANY PSYCHOS NOT TURNING UP WE MADE A LOSS OF ABOUT £80

OUR NEXT TRIP IS TO WATFORD ON 7TH MARCH
FARE £4.50 DEPART YEB FERENSWAY 8AM
AS TONIGHTS MATCH IS THE FIRST OF 3 CONSECUTIVE HOME MATCHES MONEY MUST BE PAID BY NEXT TUESDAY. MONEY TO BE PAID BEHIND THE SOUTH BANK GOAL OR THE NORTH BANK GOAL BEFORE THE MATCH AND AT HALF TIME. AS WATFORD IS THE FIRST IN A STRING OF GOOD MATCHES WE APPEAL FOR YOUR SUPPORT. THE SUPPORTERS CLUB THINK WE ARE BEATEN AND THEY DON'T THINK WE CAN STAND THE LOSSES OF THE OXFORD TRIP BUT WE CAN CARRY ON ORGANISING TRIPS WITH YOUR SUPPORT. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON WE WERE TAKING ABOUT 140 PSYCHOS TO AWAY MATCHES BUT NOW BECAUSE THE TEAM IS GOING THROUGH A BAD PATCH THE SUPPORT HAS DETERIATED. OUR AIM IS TO SHOW OTHER TOWNS WE STILL TRAVEL IN FORCE WHAT EVER POSITION WE ARE IN THE LEAGUE. IT IS UP TO YOU TO SPREAD THE WORD TO YOUR MATES ABOUT THE PSYCHOS ON TOUR AND TO COME YOURSELVES.
LIKE YOURSELVES WE HAVE BEEN VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH ALL THE POSTPONED MATCHES. BLACKPOOL AND CHESTERFIELD WERE THE MAIN CULPRITS WHEN WE LAID ON TRANSPORT FOR THESE MATCHES. ON NEW YEARS DAY 3 FULL COACHES TRAVELLED HALF WAY TO BLACPOOL BEFORE HEARING THE MATCH HAD BEEN POSTPONED. TWO FULL DOUBLE DECKERS WERE WAITING TO DEPART FOR CHESTERFIELD BEFORE HEARING THAT WAS POSTPONED. WE ALL GOT A LITTLE DESPONDENT WITH ALL THE POSTPONEMENTS BUT WE CAN NOW REALLY GET BEHIND THE TEAM AND RESTORE PRIDE TO HULL CITY.

THIS IS WHAT WE HOPE TO TAKE TO FUTURE MATCHES:-
WATFORD: COACHES. CHESTERFIELD: DECKERS. MANSFIELD: DECKERS.
COLCHESTER : COACHES. LINCOLN: DECKERS. PETERBOROUGH: DECKERS.
THE MAIN MATCHES BEING MANSFIELD AND LINCOLN
DEPOSITS CAN BE LAID OUT FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE MATCHES AT ANY OF OUR HOME MATCHES.
    COME AND JOIN THE PSYCHOS

    SIGNED

    Cheers for typing that
Late 70's was when I started going to City so it's great to read what the 'big boys' were up to travelling at that time
I did start going away early 80's and the efforts of the psycho's committee must have worked because I remember us taking a decent amount (or at least one able to handle itself ) to most places
Only ever on the periphery of the hardcore but some great days out nevertheless

The big boys were in the main teenagers, It may explain why some games the psycho could fill 2 deckers and yet for other games only a handful went. The cost was one factor we had to cherry pick which away games to go to, it really was a laugh turning up at some small time town completely unexpected. We were the majority even the old bill were unprepared. Go to places like Sunderland and it was all fear, fright and running away. So when you had to choose which games to go to it wasn't that hard if you know what i mean.

A bit like the mosh-pit at a Meteors gig in those days, I often found the periphery more to my liking too :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I want quite a teenager in the 70's so was a few years younger, but early 80's travelling was great fun
Like you say cash was tricky so you had to pick games until some income

    What is a plactic fan?
Other team's did have larger away followings than us through the 70s and 80s that is a fact. Maybe we were a rugby town and people were spending their money on that.

Rovers were league champions in 1978/79.
In the same season Hull won every one of their 26 games in Division 2 (flat track bullies against the likes of Huyton, Keighley and Bramley) and every home game was watched by five figure crowds.
Must have been all the unemployed trawlermen you know.

Our away following was poor for a lot of games in Terry Neill's first season despite us challenging for promotion for most of it and reaching the quarter finals of the Cup. And they declined for years after that.
Maybe some people thought you needed a visa to travel outside of East Yorkshire.

Remember the Lincoln trip. 3 buses set off. I was on the one impounded in Lincoln police station. One youth lobbed a pool ball off the top deck so the whole bus was kept til about 11 pm at night. every one on top deck was quizzed over who threw it. As half of us never saw it they never got the culprit. Try explaining that to your dad when he is on Ferensway at 1in the morning waiting for his 15 year old to arrive back..

That caused me to miss my birthday party that had been arranged for me,epic fail as the kids say.
Funniest thing leaving lincoln after one game, some sort of cycle race going on,i've no idea were he got it from but the elder of the webber brothers had got hold of a chinese takeaway which he managed to throw over one of the cyclists.

Re the "Pschos" spelling above, I have an amusing (I think) anecdote about something like this. One Saturday I was leaving 3 Tunns before a City game and bumped into a couple of very hard City fans, not the kind to mess with at all. They were under the r/way bridge just before BP and one of them recognised me and hailed me over. His words were something like,"Ok, four-eyes, you're a smart twat how do you spell Psychos?" This lad had a spray can in his hand and was about to do his stuff so I blurted out P-S-Y-C-H-O-S, no apostrophe!! I thought he was going to kick my head in but he just shook his own and pretended he knew what an apostrophe was. Anyway, I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that he still sprayed "City Pyscho's". I was going to remind him about there being no need for an apostrophe and also that he had put the "y" before the "s" but, not being a complete twit, I thought it was probably sensible to keep my gob shut. LOL

A couple more photos of that game against Orient (77/78). Note the bus hadn't been bricked yet as this bus piccy was taken en route. The other pics are glass.jpg in the ground itself.
