So my summer holiday consisted of two days in Canmore for a wedding held outdoors on Friday with Ha Ling Peak in the background. Incidentally, my wife and I hiked and scrambled the south face - (2,400 feet) of ascent and then descent over just under two miles each way with no level ground to catch your breath. Made the Three Peaks seem like a picnic by comparison. Was a bit like doing the toughest part of Ingleborough, non stop for two hours!

Just booked mine, normally work round the fixture list, but booked this time without even looking (just checked and I miss Reading away and Preston at home).

    Portugal again, can't wait.

I sacked the Maldives off in the end on account of the fact that I could probably have bought a ****ing island for the price we were quoted for two weeks of sand, sun, solitude and sycophancy.

So it's off to Cyprus again in a couple of weeks.

    I like Cyprus.

They drive on the right side of the road, like wot we do.

They have proper electric plugs, like wot we do.

They are split off from their neighbouring country by a United Nations Demilitarized Zone, like wot we will be in a couple of years time.

    Home from home.

Add to that Ernie, they have a City of Culture like wot we have!

Paphos is European City of Culture, double Culture! I'm off there next week for the School hols, to Paphos.

They might drive on the same side of the road as us, mind, don't think all of them have got the hang of what to do at roundabouts yet!

I'd forgotten that Paphos was European City of Culture. To be fair it has much culture to be proud of, and most of it a good bit older than ours.

It's a bit warm in Paphos atm apparently. Think we'll be heading up to the mountains quite a bit.

It'll be nice when the Cypriots master the roundabout. Maybe then they'll focus on learning how to park.

Big Sam has said he's booked a holiday in Hawaii with his missus to chill out. I'm off there Sat with my brood, I'll buy him a pint of wine and find out what he's going to do when he gets back.

Three more sleeps then I'll be heading for North Sea Ferries with a dozen mates on 10 motorcycles; first night Luxembourg before heading to our base at Forbach in the Black Forest region of Germany - then it's eight more days taking of in the sights and hospitality of Lichtenstein, Switzerland, Italy and Austria ....... I love my family holidays but, a week away with a bunch of like-minded mates is brilliant.
