Argyle's games will be played on. 1.....Home to Newport C week commencing Aug 29th. 2.....Away to AFC Wimbledon week commencing Oct 3rd. 3.....Away to Swansea Academy week commencing Nov 7th.
I intend to boycott the whole thing from start to finish. I do not agree with premiership clubs joining in. They do not need this competition and should feck off sharpish.
I never bother to sign up to the petitions Joe but just won't go. It's criminal how the football league rolls over and spreads them for the big boys. Funny how they don't give a flying one for any of the little people until it suits their agenda.
Some Premier clubs have turned down invitations for this Competition....including....Arsenal, Man C, Man U, Liverpool and Newcastle....this means that only ten Premier league clubs are involved. Reasons given for not entering their U21 teams is......matches clashing with international breaks when many of their players would not be available although the competition rules states that only six under-21 players need be chosen. Six Championship teams will make up the numbers.....they are, Norwich, Brighton, Derby, Wolves, Blackburn and Reading.
Newcastle are a championship side now! Sensible will go to watch if we progress to the later stages? I do recall him saying i won't go to wembley if we get to the play offs.. If mrs Sensible tells hi, to go he has to..
I bleddy won't then Joe. There is no rhyme or reason for the premier league or Championship for that matter getting involved by putting reserve sides into this competition. It's wrong and I will not waste any of my money watching it. That's irrespective of a Wembley appearance or not.
So right you said it twice. I think the idea of allowing them in will backfire and many are more than annoyed at the thought of this and will boycott.
I think gates will be down, although I will find it difficult not to go to HP when Argyle are at home and I have nothing better to do......
To be fair it was a bit of a meaningless cup before it changed but they have made it twice as meaningless now by allowing the changes. I won't find it difficult not going at all.
I see there is an article on the beeb football site that tells of Portsmouth fans who intend to do a walk out of the cup game in protest at the upper league reserves playing. The reason they intend a walk out rather than a boycott is that they think it's unfair on the club to deprive them of revenue. Now I absolutely applaud the not being there theme but I'm buggered if I'd give my cash to the competition. I believe Brent voted for this so stuff him and his revenue he won't get any from me for this. I would like to see every club in league one and two having empty grounds for this and then maybe they would listen to their backers who pay them every season.
Argyle voted for it because of the support the FL gave them during administration.....or so they say.
My better explanation starts with "Kerching". Most supporters appeared to be against this yet it still got voted through. Not just by the Argyle Board either. I also don't think we owe the FL anything. Argyle got out of the midden by supporters coughing up cash season after season for rubbish in return. Also by putting their hard earned into buckets to help with the debt. Did the FL make a donation? I don't think so. All they did was give a bit of time which was free. It wasn't in their interests to let Argyle roll over and die particularly but they didn't do us any particular favour. Remember, if the tax man had got us then it would have opened the floodgates. I can't see the FL wanting that as a precedent.
The Football League Clubs yesterday ( Sep22nd) ruled out allowing Celtic,Rangers or Premier League B teams into any new 80-team structuring of any radical revamping of the English game for a generation. The 72 EFL sides held talks on a proposed switch from three 24 team divisions to four 20 team ones. this would have brought it in line with the Premier League.....which is designed to ease fixture congestion throughout the game and potentially allow for a winter break. There will now be a year of consultation ahead of a vote next June (2017).....any changes will require the support of 90% of clubs. If any changes where made to a four league....twenty team a league system....then the additional eight teams needed would come from the National league and not from invited Premier league B teams. Ruled out also was the need for a future winter break applying to clubs in leagues one and two or a new league three. PS....taken from a Daily Telegraph Sports article (Sept 23rd).
I'm bumping this thread as I've just been reading a load of tripe on the beeb football site regarding this trophy. According to the powers that be this years trophy competition has been declared to be not a failure. Nothing wrong with the format and it's all worked very well. So there is nothing wrong when lower league teams field what is described as a weakened team by making too many changes to the Saturday squad even if they win the match. Remind me did Liverpool get fined for fielding a completely different eleven in their FA Cup game with us? Anyway this competition was such a success that the crowds dropped to somewhere around 33% of previous crowds in the same competition. What an ungrateful bunch we are. What a strange summary of the competition to call it successful. What the bloke means is we want it this way so we will spin the facts to sound good and feck you little people cause we don't care.
