Just back from watching City v Ferriby U in the ER cup at Bishop Burton. City's team was made up mainly of U23's some U18's. City crushed Ferriby 7-1 with a dominant performance.

    City
    Andrews
    Akbas
    Fleming
    Maslen-Jones
    Barkworth (C)
    Thacker
    Chadwick
    Edwards
    Lofts
    Annan

City were by far the better team throughout. Ferriby started well and Kendall scored after 5 minutes with a looping shot from the left side which went over the keeper into the top left corner. After that it was all city, Jonathan Edwards was excellent, and opened the scoring for City with a well taken goal. He doubled his tally with a thumping header from a corner from the right. 2-1 to City at Half time.

Second half was all City who really played some very good passing football, Edwards got his hatrick to make it 3 -1 and then Tyler Hamilton made it 4 with a lovely individual run into the area and a good finish. Jonathan Edwards quickly made it 5 with his fourth, and then Luke Lofts got the sixth with a fine finish from the right of the area. Jonathan Edwards finish the scoring off netting his 5th and City's seventh.

A bonus I was stood next to Mike Phelan who was watching and had a 15 minute chat with him at half time. Said the players were over the moon in the dressing room after the game, and it was a big lift for the whole of the club the win.

He fears Keane could be out for the season, and Hernandez for a month.

We had a chat about the apathy and he and the players understand the fans reasons. He said that unfortunately the owners just don't understand the relationship that the supporters have with their club, he said they just don't get it.

Anyhow he was sure things would be sorted out and confident that come the new year things would be different. He would expand on it, but I got the feeling that he felt the club would be sold.

Thanks John, how did Will Annan get on? There have been a few scouts watching him this season from the lower leagues.

    Well done!

Didn't you ask him why he keeps making bonkers decisions?

He had a good game, really good crosser of the ball. Was really impressed with Jonathan Edwards, stood up to Ferriby's strength really well and took all his goals well.

Well, if I did ask him that he would have clammed up, thought better to be diplomatic.

Would a step up to the first team be a leap too far?

At the moment yes, but he is strong and holds the ball up well and does have an eye for a goal. Strangely for me he does usually start for the U23's Ben Hinchliffe seems to get the nod, but personally I feel he has more future than Ben.

He is very concerned about the apathy around the club, and knows that will affect the players. For me nice to hear him being honest about how he feels about things, and what he said is plainly obvious to everyone.

Maybe a bit Early for Edwards, he doesn't even get a start usually for the U23's, Hinchliffe is the first choice number 9.

ERCSC Report: The Tigers 7 North Ferriby Utd 1

Jonathan Edwards scored five times as the Tigers came from behind to beat North Ferriby United 7-1 in the ERCFA Senior Cup at Bishop Burton on Tuesday night.

The Tigers’ starting line-up was a combination of the Club’s U23 and U18 squads. Only Brandon Fleming and Edwards survived from the U23 side that won at Derby County four days earlier. Former Tigers Danny Emerton and Ryan Kendall were included in the Ferriby side.

Tyler Hamilton was off target with an early chance for the Tigers but it was Ferriby who took a 5th minute lead when Kendall curled a superb shot into the top corner from outside the box.

Brad Maslen-Jones and Edwards both shot wide and Will Annan had a shot saved by Ferriby keeper Jordan Douglas before the home side drew level in the 18th minute. Annan’s pass found Edwards on the edge of the box and he fired a right foot shot into the bottom corner.

Edwards had another chance just a couple of minutes later but his shot was blocked by Douglas and when Annan returned the ball into the box the striker put his effort wide at the far post.

Alfons Fosu-Mensah fired high over Charlie Andrew’s crossbar before the Tigers took the lead in the 38th minute. Luke Lofts’ corner found Edwards unmarked at the far post and he headed a simple chance into the net.

Edwards then had a header saved but the linesman’s flag would have ruled it out anyway, Annan shot across goal and Douglas turned an Edwards shot round the post as the Tigers ended the half strongly.

The Villagers went close to equalising just after the re-start but Fosu-Mensah saw his free kick tipped over by Andrew. Ross Armstrong’s shot provided Andrew with an easier save as did another effort from Fosu-Mensah.

Edwards completed his hat trick as he fired past Douglas in the 62nd minute and Hamilton added the fourth goal in the 70th minute when Lofts’ pass sent him through to fire low past Douglas.

Just a couple of minutes later Annan’s low cross from the left gave Edwards a close range tap in for his fourth goal of the game.

After a flurry of substitutions the Tigers brought up their half dozen with Lofts’ 81st minute goal and Edwards netted his fifth goal of the game in the 83rd minute with a right foot shot after good work from Hamilton as the home side eased through to the next round of the Senior Cup.

Hull City: Charlie Andrew, Stephen Akbas, Brandon Fleming (Ahmed Salam 75), Brad Maslen-Jones, Ellis Barkworth, Josh Thacker (Jacob Greaves 80), Tyler Hamilton, Billy Chadwick (Max Sheaf 75), Jonathan Edwards, Luke Lofts, Will Annan.
Subs Not Used: Steve Croudson, Charlie Dunkerley.

North Ferriby United: Jordan Douglas, Dale Bennett, Kwadwo Kvei, Stephen Richardson, Mark Gray, Sam Walker, Danny Emerton, Ross Armstrong, Vinny Mukendi (Sam Ansu 67), Ryan Kendall (Tom Bolton 77), Alfons Fosu-Mensah (Harvey Spence 64).
Subs Not Used: Tom Bruce, Kallum Findlay.

I thought that Hinchcliffe lad looked really good in the U21 cup final last season against West Ham. They should have had two lads sent off for hauling him down as he raced clear but both of them got yellows.

Just as a matter of interest, in all competitions this season the scorers U23 are as follows.

    Edwards 9
    Bowen 7
    Olley 3
    Annan 3
    Hamilton 2
    Lofts 2
    Ter Holst 1
    Keane 1
    McKenzie 1

Hinchliffe hasn't scored so far, though he did miss 3 games after being sent off.

    What's Bowen's position John?

I know he's played up front and on both wings but realistically where do you think he'd be most likely to get in the first team?

For the U23's he is mainly playing left side of a three, Him on the left, Annan on the right and Hinchliffe up the middle.
