It's rather like football players isn't it? If someone's willing to pay you the money, you'd be an idiot not to take it.

Jobs 2, 3 and 4 aren't going to take up a huge amount of time and job 3 is entirely discretionary.

The bigger issue is surely the political independence of the Standard - but which editor doesn't have a political position? The same is true of most newspaper owners. I've stopped taking the Telegraph because of its hysterically pro Brexit stance, in which it's plumbing the same depths as the Daily Mail. I can't wait for an election so I can vote Liberal Democrat either, Come on Theresa, you know you want to.......

I'm getting very worried about me. I was sitting in the bar on Saturday after the match and a couple of people who I was with were looking at their phones, as people do even in company nowadays. One said to me "Do you know that Argyle are safe now and can't be relegated" My reply, and this is the shocking thing, was "I know, they can't get lower than 15th or 16th now after today". The worrying thing is that I actually knew that and had indeed even looked at the league table the day before and realised the points situation. Have I really become that sad that I'm looking up all the possible outcomes now. Have I no other life but doing that. Is this what it has come to after all these years...............

Been watching the scores for tonights games. Given one was Newport and it's crap weather out there I thought it may not be on but it was. Decent result for us again as that was Luton's match in hand. Ended 1 - 1 with a Newport player sent off so they did well.

I was just typing this plym and up popped your post.

So with 8 games to go, that's a whole 4 matches to catch us somebody is going to have to win with us losing same amount. In essence it's a 4 match season left to play.

Last weekend we had one of those funny phone calls which when answered there was nobody there (yes I know it's dodgy). But when the call cut off our phone went funny and we couldn't use it for a while. I was given a mobile phone about 4 years ago by my son because my Mrs was worried there might be a power cut cutting off our landline just when I had another heart attack (yes I know the chances are slim) and she wouldn't be able to call the emergency people (she says but I think it might have been more the Undertaker). Anyway, we tried to use the mobile to call our landline to check it was working again ok. The bleddy mobile wouldn't work and would only come up with a signal that said the Sim card was not active. When I phoned the mobile number it said number not recognised. Took phone to son who said "I dunno try the O2 shop in town where I got it".

Today I went into their shop and spoke to a pleasant young man about the problem. His first statement was that it was probably discontinued and he asked me when I last made a call. "About 3 and half years ago" I said. "No" he said, "Not when did you get the phone but when did you use it". "I'm not daft" I told him. "I have only made one call and that was when I first got the thing so I knew what I was doing there is plenty of credit left on there so it never ran out of cash and I do keep it charged". He gave me one of those funny looks. He then explained that if I didn't use it and spend money then O2 just shut it down. I asked him where the credit had gone and he said well they take it. Bleddy swindle. He told me that it was unlikely it could be resurrected after all that time. I suggested he phone them and ask them. Resigned to having to deal with an old fart who didn't have a clue about modern gadgets he suggested I buy a new Sim card and put another £10 credit on it. I suggested he start phoning. So, realising I wasn't going to go away he picked up his mobile and dialed a number. About 20 minutes later having sat in a queue he got a response. And Lo it came to pass that they had closed it down and stolen my cash. But, they hadn't flogged the number to anyone else so they made it live again and gave me the cash credit back. I have now nicknamed my phone Lazurus. As a parting shot he suggested I phone somebody, anybody once every 4 months and wait till they answer before hanging up. Isn't technology wonderful. I wonder how much O2 make every year doing that.

It's probably more basic than that.....I just use a simple phone that I can text on with a cheap camera ...which I rarely use (non-internet)......and also it isn't growing out of my hand and therefore cannot ever go in my pocket... like mine can.....meaning I don't walk into lamp posts or become a nuisance walking into people on the pavement.....it also means I don't completely ignore who ever I am with and actually talk to them.....or being demanded to cut people short in mid-sentence because someone has phoned or more often text.....which must demand action more importantly than whatever you are discussing with whoever you are with.

I phoned my own house number today to see if it was working. Sure enough it is back in the land of living. To make the call for literally less than 5 seconds it cost me 30p. What gets me most of all is that we got it to actually ring 999 if required which is free. So it is going to cost me pounds and pounds over time to ring a free number. No wonder that O2 mob can afford a big arena. It's the poor plebs who have paid for it.

Anyway it's back in it's box for another 4 months. And yes plym I can relate to alll you have said above. Those people drive me bananas. I catch a bus into town quite often. It is usually full of younger people, some with small offsprings. They sit transfixed to the small screen and ignore everything around them including their kids if they have them. The kids sit there looking bored stiff. I'm shocked any of them can even speak as nobody is talking to them.

That's a bit on the expensive side...30p for a quick call.....my Virgin network mobile I use quite often and generally costs me between £4/£5 a month and that's with them sending me a paper bill each month which they charge for.....your obviously paying up front by topping up your phone with airtime when necessary.....obviously dearer that way......Mrs Plym has the same make as me....it just helps to keep a check on what she is up to when my back is turned.....<whistle>.

Come on gents, stick with the programme, pay as you go are a rip off. Get a cheap pay monthly tariff and you can call and download as much as you like for about £20/month-there is a whole world out there waiting to be discovered...

Nope. If I get a phone I feel obliged to carry with me when I go out then people will bleddy call me. Stuff that. My rate is about £1 per year which beats all the tariffs above.

I remember my younger days as a call centre rep.
We used to have a free operator services line which people would use to try and get around ringing the chargeable number.
I remember advising one caller that I would have to transfer him to the chargeable service and in response he decided to play me the whole of "November Rain" just to waste my time as he said he had been on hold for 7 minutes so I should have to wait on "hold" for him to be ready to be transferred. Quite enjoyed it until my manager told me to give warnings and hang up after about 4 minutes <laugh>

On point: Lyndy is right, PAYG is a complete rip off.
