More reports in France about his potential move to St Etienne. He has lived and worked in France all his life. His wife is reported to be unhappy. I don't know if you're more likely to get homesick as a 20 year old or a 50 year old, I would guess the latter. He has come to this country and given it a go, but if he is getting grief at home, grief in the stands. Then there is a strong chance he is as meh about next season as we are. If he can get another job back home with reputations all in tact then it's probably best for all.
Decision some time next week ? http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2017/st-etienne-still-holding-out-for-claude-puel/
"We" = Saints supporters, I speak for all of us. After 90 odd pages of debate on this thread I think the general consensus is that even those who don't think Puel should be sacked are not exactly going to shed too many tears if he does leave. The passion is more aimed at the lack of respect towards Puel as opposed to a massive desire for him to remain in charge. My point though was that if he doesn't want to be here as well and his family are not happy then it's not worth moving on together.
I've made it clear that I think that we should persevere with Puel because I saw signs of progress in the second half of the season, but not consistancy yet. Next season should be easier and the only drawback being the negative atmosphere at SMS and I think that the board should make every effort possible to keep him as I'm a big believer in continuity and stability. However, if the rumours are true that the Puel family haven't settled and are unhappy in England, then a move to St Etienne may be the best solution for all concerned, there is no point in having an unsettled manager and this way would be a way of everybody saving face (and money).
Well, seeing that Luis Enrique is now unemployed...I'd take a punt on him [emoji12] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Saints have made contact with good managers in the past, and got past the 'obvious' candidates: Pellegrini last summer; Ranieri around Koeman's appointment; and Tuchel when he was at Mainz. Tuchel could be someone will target because Dortmund fans and their board aren't sure about him as they failed to win anything this season. (Before yesterday!!) Think he is somebody who fits our profile, and could be achievable if Claude was to depart.
Didn't Dortmund win the cup yesterday? Don't see Tuchel coming here either way, he'll have bigger/better offers.
Just read a blog where it is suggested that we could get compensation from St Etienne. I would suggest that that is waived if Puel wants the move and Les feels he has made a mistake...get the best deal for everyone IF that is what is happening.
Top post. Agree that the disrespect to a manager who has done reasonably well is the worst thing. Ranieri anyone?!
I accept your last paragraph, totally. The rest I don't agree. I believe there are a number of fans here, I'm one, who would like him to stay and would be disappointed if he doesn't. I still say you're better off saying "I" As then at least you know for sure the view is correct
I must admit to using we a lot when writing. I think it's because I have to write e-mails and letters a lot for work on behalf of the business. I'm surprised we're still going with my grammar
