This could be the first time for me to start thing off Uttoxeter 3:05 thundering home must have a chance in this race following his last run.
A bitterly disappointing line up for the Prix d’Ispahan at Chantilly today. It is a Group 1 race in name and prize money only. Zarkava’s son Zarak has won a Group 3 race in Meydan but was the beaten favourite in last year’s Poulains, where Dicton finished third ahead of him. Dicton won the Group 3 Prix Fontainebleau before that but nothing since; however, he was third in the Prix du Jockey Club, where Mekhtaal was the unplaced favourite in a race won by his stablemate Almanzor. In receipt of the fillies’ allowance, Group 2 winner Usherette ought to take care of the boys here as she is the top-rated runner – but I cannot back her as her only victory against the boys was a conditions race in March 2016. The rain arrived in time for Success Days in the Tattersalls Gold Cup and of the Ballydoyle contingent Somehow looks a better prospect than Deauville, who has run badly on easy ground the last three times he has encountered it. What bothers me is that Success Days and Deauville might cut each others’ throats vying for the lead. I will wait and see if the latter is taken out. I would like to see Winter complete the Guineas double but I do not bet odds-on so I will only be watching. Just for the sake of mentioning it, my gaffer’s syndicate jumper runs in the last at Fontwell today (5:05): Snow Rescue. It will not take ten seconds for anyone to quickly surmise that it is a donkey and he will not be trekking 300 miles to see it run – more like 300 yards to the nearest bookies. I know when I mentioned one of his flat donkeys on here it duly won at 33/1 but I cannot see lightning striking twice...
I've gone with Johannes Vermeer in the Tattersalls Gold Cup. This looks more like a group 3 and he should have come on at fair bit for his run against Minding. He travelled nicely into that race but just wasn't fit enough. Aneen is the pick in the 1000. She showed as much potential as any in her two runs as a two year old. Her trainer said they had always planned on starting her off here so she should be fit enough. Took 16/1 when she was declared on Wednesday. Red Label is probably the best in the 2.50 but I'll take a chance with Vociferous Marina. Her run in the Musidora might not have been that bad considering the conditions and she did win a reasonable listed race quite impressively at Navan the time before.
I've seen it all now - 2.35 Uttoxeter a 3 horse race and 2 of them are odds-on. How the **** does that work?
I'm on Brokopondo in that at 8s but has drifted out massively which is worrying. How was the gig last night?
Guns N Roses put on a great show Smokey, played for nearly three hours. Also done a cover of Black Hole Son which was a nice touch.
I saw a version of Guns N Roses 15 years ago but that was just Axl and his backing band. I really enjoyed them and the guitarist at the time Buckethead was amazing. But if Slash isn't there it just isn't Guns N Roses so doesn't count. Glad you enjoyed it mate
It is not very often that you will see two odds-on shots in a three horse race when it is actual horses. In this case two 10/11 shots and a 40/1 make a 107 per cent book, so it is no worse than any number of three possible result sporting fixtures. For example, you can regularly find Super League matches where both sides are 10/11 (or 5/6), the handicap is a few points and there will be a draw price (usually less generous, at around 20/1, than this four-legged outsider).
It will be interesting to see what Timeform make of the Sectionals in the Irish 1,000 Gns. Winter won "easily" yet achieved what seems to be a relatively fast time.
Winter was very impressive, looks like Obrien will mop up the mile G1s with her and Churchill, only Ribchester standing in their way really.
Ribchester is trained by Fahey though, huge negative. Will be running class 5 handicaps at Newcastle in 2 years no doubt and hosing up at 5/1 from 16's.
Well done Arsenal. Broke 2 records. Arsen Wenger, most FA Cup wins. Arsenal most FA Cups. Just hope Wenger stays and keeps Sanchez and Osil
Winter was very impressive in two Classics, although it is questionable how strong a field she beat in Ireland. She could be this year’s Minding, although I cannot see her going beyond ten furlongs. After the Coronation Stakes she may go to the Nassau Stakes if they are prepared to take on her elders. They will surely keep Winter to races against her own sex until later in the season but on the ratings, Ribchester is better than Churchill. On a strict form line with Thunder Snow, Churchill barely improved his running against the Godolphin horse from last year’s Dewhurst so they may both be standing still. After the St James’s Palace Stakes, I wonder if they might send Churchill for the Eclipse. Right now, I would rather back Fahey’s four year old in the Sussex Stakes than the three year old.
I dont care about ratings, think ive told you that a few times over the years, I know you are obsessed with them and you take the handicappers opinion as gospel. Ribchester is a good horse and done me a few turns, especially at Ascot, but the Lockinge slightly flatters him, he likes soft ground, was race fit and got a soft lead, Breton Rock was 3rd which tells you this wasnt a top mile race. The Guineas have not look particularly strong either but if it came up fast ground in the Sussex, id fancy Churchill strongly getting 8 pounds, soft ground its a different story.
