It's good to see that whilst Mauricio Pochettino can't bring himself to say his name, he has got Jesus Pérez 'playing the game' with Moussa Sissoko on his behalf. "He's in his plans for the season and he is, for us, a member of the squad." Complete bollocks of course. However, it probably adds a few million to the price tag. There's nothing that decreases the price of a footballer quicker than a large pay packet and the selling club advertising they want to get rid......oh, unless you've let the player's contract run down to 12 months. Combine these things and you've got............well, Ross Barkley, really.
Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier, 26, has targeted overtaking 27-year-old Kyle Walker, who left Spurs to join Manchester City this summer, as the first choice England right-back. (Guardian) It would be fantastic if this happens! The message to Walker would be: "You were wrong, pal; and Poch was right! Learn to wind your neck in and listen!"
I still think we need a major signing or two to help our CL campaign despite Christian and Harry saying we don't need to sign new players.
Walker may not even keep his club's first choice spot let alone the national side's one, what with Danilo joining City today. Oh how sweet that'd be!
It looks like City are set to spend £128M in a week on full backs!! To play alongside their £120M worth of centre backs. In front of £50M worth of goalkeepers. And their defence still doesn't inspire confidence, does it?
Pep is well matched to City both only know one way build a football team. Joe Mercer would not have fitted here at all but Allinson might have done.
To inherit a superior squad that requires nominal change and/or a stellar player signed. Citeh are nowhere near that (as Barca/Munich are) .
Do Citeh have a 'freshers week' so they can get to know their new team mates? It's rumoured the Chavs used to so Terry could meet all of the new wives.
Not so many years ago Citeh fell foul of the FFP rules (somehow). Since then I don't recall them announcing yet another incredibly dubious sponsorship deal (with their own parent company) for megabucks, and yet they have spent hundreds of millions on players. So how exactly does this FFP thing work? Surely their income can't have increased by that much since they broke the rules. They have spent more on full backs this week than our entire first team cost. No doubt if they win something it will (according to the pundits) be because PG has recovered his godlike managerial abilities.
Latest rumour from the Portuguese press puts another defender on our list, unsurprisingly. Benfica have apparently abandoned their interest in Jeremy Toljan, as we're close to singing him. He's a versatile German defender, who currently plays for Hoffenheim. The 22-year-old was part of the German U21 side that won the Euros in the summer. He has one year left on his contract and the suggested fee is a little under £3m. Could well be bullshit, but he'd suit the model that the club's had success with recently. In terms of exits, Moussa Sissoko has been linked with a move to West Brom. A £20m fee has been suggested, which I think we'd gladly take. He might fit in well with Pulis' tactics. Definitely up to the physicality of it.
After the Berahino saga, what better way for Levy to have the last laugh than by stitching them with Sissoko!
Nope! I think that was even proven the other night against you guys, with Walker kicking the post in frustration after they'd conceded, think the tweet below really hits the nail on the head
Who are the defensive coaches at City? Pep has said that he doesn't coach 'tackling' so how are all these new boys (with only one having experience of the EPL) going to blend in and get that defensive unit going? They could find themselves playing catch up very early on if teams go for the jugular early on in the season - At the Amex for the first of the season so maybe three points in the bag from the start though?
