Hi Chair Boys, long time no speak.

I see the top of the table has 'bunched up' a bit since the turn of the year and a costly home draw sees you slip in to third.

As it appears that Wycombe are getting too many draws for their own good, what is the general consensus on here? Will you get a top three place? or will it be play offs?

I personally cannot see you ending outside the top seven, and hopefully you will get an auto spot.

Too difficult to call Thai with our small squad. For example the absence of our captain and key striker seems to be taking its toll, as will key defenders. Also, in this League, teams not doing so well suddenly take off on winning streaks with class Loan signings. We could still end up nearer bottom than top but realistically I would expect us to finish in the top half. A lot depends on who we can keep until the end of the season.

Anything is possible mate. One bad run and ...............
Did you know that this 3 points for a win was first experimented in the Isthmian League when Wycombe was an amateur side (Can't remember who introduced it but I think it might have been Jimmy Hill). It certainly created the possibility of tables being turned upside down during a season.

No, I did not know that mate, tell you what I do know about this system though.....................the first season it was introduced, Norwich City finished 3rd in the league got promoted from Division 2 (The old D2). Had it remained 2 points for a win, Sheffield Wednesday would have finished 3rd and got promoted instead - sh1t out of luck huh? :emoticon-0140-rofl:

The problem is Thai it looks like the club has a five year plan by signing Ainsworth up for this long & other comments made on the official WWFC website & I can not imagine in their wildest dreams they thought we would be where we are in the league today nobody on here did. Also in yesterdays programme was an article by somebody from OPTA sports there has been only 3 teams in the entire history of the four divisions have made up 20 or more places in the same division Grimsby in 1955 finished 23rd then next won the title, Preston did it in 1987 finishing 23rd then 2nd. The last team to do it was Scunthorpe in 2004 finished 22nd then got promoted. I can remember going up the last time for a club our size it was a real struggle & it did'nt help with teams like Charlton, Leeds, both Sheffield clubs & yourself Norwich. Given the chance I would prefer the play offs & a Wembley date just for the money side. As I said on here yesterday I would rather be third from top than third from bottom. All that said you have to keep trying to push forward in football or you can go backwards very quick.

Unless we get an experienced striker in we'll finish in the play-offs at best. What we don't need is an untried youngster on loan.

What seems to be going on then is not too dissimilar to what we have recently experienced. A 7 year plan was put in place, followed by consecutive promotions (L1 to PL - only the 2nd team to do so), and it is still questionable as to whether the team was actually ready for (despite surviving for a couple of seasons).

Yes, that season we shared L1 with you was a tough league for a club of your size and all that can be hoped for is to give it your best shot.

I will be watching but keeping a low profile as I am quite adept at jinxing WWFC. Good luck lads <cheers>
