Looking at the form of Cook & Trott, England would be better off sending in two nightwatchmen at the start of the innings <doh>

All-rounder Moeen Ali has been added to the England squad for the final two Tests in the West Indies.
The 27-year-old left-handed batsman and off-spinner was not included in the original 16-man party because of a side stain suffered during the World Cup.
Surely they can't drop Treadwell after taking 4??

Left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn has been dropped from the West Indies squad for the second Test against England in Grenada beginning on April 21. Right-arm medium pacer Shannon Gabriel has been called up in the only change to the West Indies 14-man squad.

West Indies finished a rain-affected first day in Grenada on 188-5 (Samuels 94*, Jordan 2-40)

What a ball Jimmy produced to get rid of Brathwaite
Jordan the pick of the bowlers - though to be honest they all bowled a yard too short

At the end of Day 2 in Grenada England trail West Indies by 225 runs with 10 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

England with 4 1st innings wickets remaining lead West Indies by 74 runs at the end of the third day
    West Indies 299 (Samuels 103, Broad 4-61) - England 373 for 6 (Root 118*, Buttler 4*)
I'm thinking bat sensibly for the first hour - then press on with a view to getting them in halfway between lunch and tea

Great innings by Root. He seems to score quickly without being aggressive.

It's going to be tough to get 10 wickets on this pitch - especially with one rusty and out of form spinner assisted by one part timer.

England need to get them in and be prepared to knock runs off on day five. That means the batsmen going hard from the start and risking their wickets. Get 200 in front - but quickly i.e before lunch, then there's pressure created with the most part of two days left.

Otherwise, we have a scenario where even if England bat well, we're only 270-280 ahead at tea and Cook bats on because he's decided he only wants to bat once. Then the WI have to survive 100 overs or so, which they'll manage on this pitch if the last Test and the first innings here are anything to go by.

West Indies 299 and 202 for 2 (Brathwaite 101*, Samuels 22*) lead England 464 (Root 182*, Cook 76, Trott 59) by 37 runs at the end of Day 4

A draw seems the likely result

A draw seemed very likely smhbcfc, but Jimmy thought differently. Great performance. Root or Anderson for MoM?

Root set the victory up but Jimmy won it - could be either - think I would give it to Root (as Anderson ran himself out!)

England beat West Indies by nine wickets in the 2nd test at Grenada
    England 464 (Root 182*, Ballance 77, Cook 76, Trott 59, Bishoo 4-177) and 144 for 1 (Ballance 81*, Cook 59*) - West Indies 299 (Samuels 103, Broad 4-61) and 307 (Brathwaite 116, Bravo 69, Anderson 4-43)
England lead 3 match series 1-0

Incredible morning session for Jimmy Anderson with 3 wickets, a run out (direct hit) and 2 catches

Root has over 2,000 runs at an average of over 57 - and he's not 25 'til the end of the year. All things being equal, he's going to smash every batting record for England.

Jimmy is still very lithe and fit. 500 wickets could be within his reach.

We had a conversation in the office this morning about whether Cook or Root would end up with most career runs - were undecided in the end

England 240 for 7 (Cook 105) v West Indies at the end of the first day in Barbados.
Pleased for Chef, but his dismissal in the last over was a body blow - advantage West Indies at the moment
