Latvian international Kasts Puodzuks has been rewarded for a delightful Daugavpils display in 2014 with this year’s Rietumu Bank Latvian FIM Speedway Grand Prix wild card.
Puodzuks dons the famous No.16 race jacket at the Lokomotiv Stadium in Daugavpils on July 18 after reaching last year’s semi-final, despite only being called into the meeting five minutes before the parade.

Polish champion Maciej Janowski topped the Rietumu Bank Latvian SGP rostrum on 12 points when the meeting was curtailed due to heavy rain after heat 20. Triple world champ Nicki Pedersen was second, pipping third-placed Troy Batchelor after they tied on 11 points with three wins and two third places apiece. This meant the Dane got the verdict, having won their head-to-head battle in race 16.

World champion Greg Hancock paid tribute to FIM race director Phil Morris and the track staff who pulled off a Malilla miracle to ensure Saturday’s Swedish SGP went ahead.
Torrential rain lashed the G&B Arena from late morning onwards, but the locals were ready for it, hiring in track covers from Swedish champions Vetlanda and covering the racing surface on Friday night. There’s no doubt the covers saved the event, which was delayed for an hour to allow Morris and the track crew time to remove the sheets and carry out remedial work on the circuit. Hancock was full of praise for Malilla’s army of volunteers as they delivered a superb race track against all the odds.
"I don’t think there was one person around who believed there was going to be a speedway race. They did a fantastic job."
    - Greg Hancock

Slovenian star Matej Zagar defied a frightening fall to boost his FIM Speedway World Championship medal hopes with an heroic Gorzow FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland victory on Saturday night.
The Ljubljana-born rider took a ride back to the pits in an ambulance after Aussie champion Jason Doyle dived hard under Nicki Pedersen in heat 18, catching the Dane’s front wheel. The triple world champion fell hard, taking Zagar with him.
Zagar – racing on his Polish Ekstraliga home track – landed awkwardly with his bike nearly clearing the third-bend safety fence. Pedersen walked back to the pits unaided, but withdrew from the meeting with a suspected neck injury. Zagar emerged from the ambulance and showed incredible steel to win the re-run.
Tai Woffinden was third in the final, but strengthened his grip on the World Title by top scoring on the night with 18 points
