What are your recommendations? I had a curry in "The Clipper" in St benedicts? A few years ago and it was ok. But I'm coming home for a bit longer so would like to know any good places to eat.

Benedicts is supposed to be very good, went to Morston hall when he was head chef there and was fantastic. Depends on what you want really though.

I don't understand people enjoying high class restaurants with Michelin stars, all you get isa mouthful of food on a plate that's painted with a few different coloured sauces, not my idea of a good meal!

The best curry house is the Merchants of Spice in Colegate. I like the food in the Wig and Pen, nice pub with a good selection of real ale and the Black Horse and Earlham Arms in Earlham Road is also pretty good. For something different, try the Workshop which is opposite the Black Horse.

I am still as yet to try the Merchants of spice, though everone seems to think it is the dogs (Cahonies not the local strays in the curries!) We had curries both evenings of the CoA weekend just gone, On saturday we visited Spice paradise, only because they have traditionally allowed you to get beers from across the road at the Kings head (On the city of ale trail so two birds) The food was pretty good but they seemed less keen on us getting beer from across the road as they now serve their own bitter. Don't know if we'll get away with it again. The second night we visited the clipper and the food again was pretty good.
My current favourite Thai in the city is "Thai Kitti" very nice food. For nice cheap fish and chips, I still swear by Ron's on the market, Although the chip inn in long stratton, was, is and will always be the best (In my opinion) Back in Norwich, I think both Mambo jambos and Pedros offer good tex mex food and the Yankee traveller in Yarmouth good steaks, country short ribs and the best burgers. Zaks which I used to love, especially the one on mousehold heath had gone down hill last time I visited, that was about two years ago so it may have picked up again.

    Bah!

Fantastic Thai restaurant called 'The House' on Queens Rd by St Stephen's roundabout.
Ideal for a cheap and delicious two-course lunch <ok>

Not really impressed by any of the Zaks outlets.
The Murderers seems quite popular for food, but have never eaten there. Beware of the Trafford, as it's now trying to go down the 'Gastropub' route.
The King's Arms on Hall Road let's you take food in from a chippy, Chinese or Indian nearby!!!

I've eaten in "The House" 3-4 times and the food is good, but if your in a larger group or it's a busy night it's best avoided. Firstly, I think the kitchens quite small because if you waited for all your dishes to come out, the first would be stone cold. Secondly on two occations some of the food has come out stone cold and the last time they screwed up our orders and again there was probably 10+ minutes between the first dishes to arrive and the last and about 50-60minutes between the starters and the mains. Not always a problem if you're making an evening of it, but we had later plans and that pushed things tight.

As for Zaks, we knew the old owner who has long since moved on and as such we went there a lot many years back, I think it was about 2 years ago that we visited for the first time in 3 or so years and it was disappointing and nowhere near as good as in yesteryear.

If you've until now not been exposed to it, there is a new phenonmenom in the Uk and Norwich has 1 or 2 called Nando's, it's really rather good......apart from the chicken!

    Bah!
