NEIL Warnock has admitted he is having second thoughts on buying a striker in the January transfer window as a result of Heidar Helguson’s amazing form.

The 34-year-old (pic) has confounded expectations at QPR where he scored his sixth of the season to net Rangers a 1-1 draw against West Brom on Saturday.

It also equalled a club Premiership record of a Ranger scoring in four consecutive games at home, and his manager could have bad news for prospective targets Jermain Defoe at Spurs and Andy Johnson at Fulham.

“I was speaking to the chairman in Malaysia, and I’ve told him what my thoughts are,” said Warnock. “You give me £5m to buy a striker, and I don’t think I could get much better than Helguson.

“So I think you’ve got to be careful – sometimes January is not the right time. I need players in (other) areas that I’ll try to get.

“But it’s made to measure for Heidar in the Premiership. He can rest Mondays and Tuesdays, and build up to a game on Saturday.

“If we’re in the Championship, then it’s three games a week and it’s hard work. I see him playing 15-20 games a season, and it’s easier at the level we’re at than the Championship where it’s whacky races – if you can remember that programme.”

Sounds to me like typical Neil Warnock (In a good way). Just his way of letting other teams know that we arent that desperate for a striker that we will pay any price going.

He must be joking, if HH gets injured we are stuffed. We cant rely on Both and DJ has been out for half the season.

When DJ is fit he will be good and would be like buying a new striker as he hasn't played much this season. Still could do with one though but with him fit we can take a gamble on a younger striker that doesn't cost the earth. Want Bassong and Onuha but with Taylor (Newcastle) out for the season and CB injuries will they nick one of them.
Quite like Gibson on loan with the possibility of buying in summer.
Are we still after the Swansea boy?

He loves collecting strikers does our Neil, I expect him to bring in at least two after making that statement.
I think we will be making some large wholesale changes to the squad in January.
If he can sign six players in a week leading up to the last window, imagine what he will do with a few months in which to plan in.
All the passengers will be getting off.
TF can't afford for us to risk going down.

After Saturday the need for a finisher seems obvious, now that it appears that Harry boy is giving Defoe a start the need for him to leave Spurs is less likely,Teams will only be releasing there dross so choices will be thin on the ground.

We wont get Defoe so who else is out there, especially for £5million. I think we need a centre back and another winger / creative midfielder so that would be my priority.

Im sill hoping that we get Defeo on loan till end of season come Jan. Can potentially see HR just giving him odd games here and there and buying in jan or summer. Spuds are apparently interested in Drogba and Anelka so if one signs for the spuds then maybe...just maybe we will see defeo in hoops.

A great striker is always nice, and with just 3 out and out strikers in the 25 now in HH, Bothrøyd and DJ we should have another. But I reckon a top class, big and fast, CB is number 1 priority, followed by a creative attacking midfield player if Neil doesn't reckon Adel is up to that.

Don't worry lads, the ink has already dried on the Defoe deal.

At least that's what the ITKs told us recently....
