Separating this as an issue from the England manager stuff. I'm increasingly struck by how little Curb's name comes up now when there is a vacancy. He's not been mentioned at all for England. He has not had a sniff at recent club jobs (Fulham, Sunderland etc). They do say if you are off the wheel for too long you get forgotten. I wonder if he has the desire now to take on a big job or whether he will ever get the chance?

I think he lost the drive. I am sure if he had really, really wanted a job he could have got one in the top two levels.

Maybe he will return as Director of Football or some such (a la Lennie) but I doubt even that. Maybe if CP screws up or the opposite (leaves for a plum job) and we were wobbling, Curbs might fancy coming back as the saviour with a younger coach under him. He wouldn't have too much to lose in that situation, but let's hope neither of those situations arise.

He apparently has made it known that he only wants to work with a very select few clubs/chairman. I don't blame him do a few pundit gigs and a few after dinners and put your feet up. He would never get the England job simply because he never had the big club he knows that.

I did hear a rumour that a few years ago that he was one vote away from being England manager.

I just feel he's been off the radar for too long now and new young managers have jumped ahead of him (i.e. Pearson @ Leicester / Hughton @ Birmingham / Howe @ Burnley and Powell @ Charlton)

He's 54 now and because of his reluctance to drop down and manage a team in the Championship means I dont think we'll see him in the dugout again, which is extremely sad

SOunds like a 1930's film " The lost manager of English Football"

    Great shame

Typical, I heard that he was one vote away as well, Brooking had pushed for him to get it but the wallys who take decisions without knowledge of the game outvoted.

Paddy Power says Curbs is 66/1 to become the next Manager, somehow behind Pep Guardiola

This could have been so beautiful for curbs. He was that close to the job. He was treated terribly by the fa they sent him out with Sven and all be was asked to do was collect the cones and hand out bibs. The fa as I understood it went for brolly Wally because he was always going to be the yes man they so desired. Curbs may return one day and you heard it hear first- as Alex ferguson assistant.

No because Curbs is too good a British/English manager and can easily make a comeback, his record at Charlton was exceptional. He's intelligent and wise and just like with driving those management skills will never go away.

Would someone who is "intelligent and wise" want to put up with all the crap in the modern game? And we have had a few ripe examples of what I mean by that during the past two/three weeks.

When you are young and have a young family you have the energy and incentive to suffer fools gladly, but once you and your family have enough to live off comfortably for the rest of your lives, why bother? Not to mention that by making after-dinner speeches and a bit of media pundit work he can still earn more than most of us could ever dream of.

If he does come back, it will be for "fun" or job satisfaction rather than for the money. That is why I suggested that Charlton might be one of the few clubs he would consider, and then only in unlikely circumstances. Typical suggests there are a few chairmen Curbs would work for. I cannot imagine who they are. All the ones at the bigger clubs seem to be crooks, pompous windbags or incompetent, and don't get me started on the F.A. and the media.

Yes because he knows how to handle them and I stick by comments. Also age isn't an issue for football management just ask Fergie. The FA continue to lead the way when it comes to diversity in football management.

Curbishley's problem is that he ideally needs to go to a club which on the one hand is clearly too big for the division it's in, and on the other hand has the patience to trust him to get the job done even if it doesn't happen in the first season. Give him both of those things and he will repeat what he did at Charlton.

In my opinion the only clubs in the country where both of these things exist are Charlton (you already have a good manager who should get you back to the Championship), Huddersfield (ditto), MK Dongs (they are scum and he must not be allowed to go there under any circumstances), Preston (just appointed Westley), and Bradford (League Two would be a massive step down, and they're on their death bed financially).

I don't think Curbs wants to move away from his Essex home, so the options are limited. If the Ipswich job came up, it would be ideal for him.

But, in my opinion, I think football has lost the great man.

Yep Haysey - he has said he's interested. I don't like Wolves though, so would have mixed feelings about it (I'm sure Curbs will think twice now I've said that )

I have lots of family from the midlands, and they sway more towards the WBA side of things, so that explains my dislike for Wolves.

My head says that he will find himself back in management at a Championship club though. Who? No idea, but this job will go to someone else IMO.
