Bristol City will be joined by two goalkeepers on trial during pre-season, head coach Sean O'Driscoll has revealed.

Following the departure of Tom Heaton and Dean Gerken the Robins have been left without a senior shot-stopper, and the former Nottingham Forest boss will give the incoming pair the chance to impress during the club's friendlies.

"We've got a couple coming down in pre-season on trial," O'Driscoll told the club's official website. "We're just after a number one and a number two really.

"I don't think any of the Under-18 goalkeepers are ready to be on the bench, so we'll be looking for another young one we can develop."

    I wonder who they are, a No 1 and a No 2.....?

Is he saying that we will still be looking for a double goalkeeping tandem for next season during the pre-season? That scares me to death because surely we need that vital position sewn up well before the kick off to the next campaign and if it isn't then I fear for our stability next term. Unbelievable!

It is either two Keepers trying for the No 1 spot or Two U 21 Keepers so he must have one spot either filled (pre contract) or pretty damn sure someone is going to sign.

Read those two sentences very carefully City fans.

First sentence says that he only wants one senior keeper and an Under 21 to be on the bench.

But he then says referring to the under 18 keepers already at the Club not being ready for the bench, the clue to the two trialists being for the Under 21 spot is there.

SO'D will not be trialling two keepers for the number one spot; he will already have the candidates in mind. But Under 21's will not have been scouted/assessed as much last season, hence the need to check out the two best candidates during pre-season.

Why would he want to sign a second rate bench polisher I don't know Like said elsewhere not good enough to keep a job anywhere since he left City in the lurch plus too old never dominated his box was a good shot stopper on his day but too many 'Hollywood/TV' type saves and a few cockups as a result. A former fans favourite but he should stay away as I couldn't see any good resulting from his return.

As he is after Simon Moore of Brentford, you would assume the 2 trialist's will be U21's?

I honestly think one of them is Flinders from Hartlepool. He's OOC and perhaps SOD wants to see him play before we sign him. Cant see it being someone of Lee Camps calibre as it would be an insult to him to have a trial for a league 1 club. Either that or smh is right, It will be 2 U-21's

My belief is it is 2 U - 21 keepers that will be on trial unless there are two evenly matched keepers vieing for the No: 1 spot who are both out of contract we certainly wouldn't be allowed to give players from another club trials to decide if we want to buy them.
