Tomorrow (2nd August) sees the biggest pre-season game to date take place when a Newcastle XI take on The Heed at Gateshead Stadium.
KO at 7.30.

A local derby is always a special affair, especially when playing against our biggest rivals and Tyneside's Second Club.

It looks as though Mike Williamson is being given a run out along with Haris Vuckic.
Hopefully The Heed will try not to embarrass Mike too much - we can only hope.

The game is a continuation of the close link with Gateshead FC and will hopefully be a decent game.

Thank F*** for tonight.

May be a low key match, but its been a long wait since the end of May for a live match.

Some good young players on show - stars of the future with any luck.

It was nice to attend an "away Derby" without the bile and hatred you get with the Unwashed.

2 - 1 to the Toon, but best team lost. If wasn't for 3 or 4 cracking saves from Alnwick and a couple of good finishes from Campbell, Gateshead would have won.

We put out a decent team including Campbell, Vuckic, Gosling, Newton, Goode, Street and we were outplayed for much of the game.

I've always given Vuckic the benefit of the doubt, but he made no real impact on the game. If he can't do that against a Conference side what chance in the PL. Same with Gosling.

One big worry was Alnwick going off injured, it looked a bit serious and as he is third choice keeper it could be a problem.

Friday evening saw United's second string make the short trip across the Tyne for another pre-season warm-up against their Conference Premier League neighbours.

Adam Campbell scored twice to give the visitors a slightly fortunate victory, but the game was marred by further clownish behaviour from some of the travelling support, with a number of smoke canisters discharged.

Poor show throwing flares. Mackems did the same thing at our place. Just moronic. The North East fans are getting a rep. In the last 5 years alone you've had mackems attacking dogs, invading pitches, throwing flares, and you've had the same from our lot (swapping dogs for horses). Not really the best picture to paint of the area, but you'll always have knobheads from all clubs I suppose.

What the hell are you talking about, rioting in your own city centre, and how did they get in with flares? they are banned along with fireworks etc in the SOL, as for the dogs in the central station this is a free country, and the supporters were delibrety diverted to Newcastle station. I came back from the f a cup semi final with other SAFC supporters in 2004 and got off at Newcastle station and not one copper to be seen !, so what were they doing with the dogs when no match took place in Newcastle that day?. Sour grapes because you got relegated that season I think. And supporters WALKED onto the pitch at the SOL and nowt happened. 1974 and 1990 then.

Ah the old history rewrite, nowt like it. So not only were the police to blame for being attacked by Sunderland fans (before you open your mouth and embarrass yourself further monty, CCTV cleared police of any wrong doing - I think they were there to scupper a pre arranged fight with our lot), we are also to blame for your fans smuggling in flares and setting them off? And nowt happened when Sunderland fans got on the pitch? I could have sworn on one such occasion Harper was attacked by some pleb. Classic stuff. Are you just trying to sound ******ed or does it come naturally? Face it we all have our morons. There is no moral high ground to be had.

Both sets of fans could do without their cocks but such is life. Burying your head and pretending it isn't happening is just daft. It was the same last year with the flare, we were told by one poster that he was an alright lad really! Nah he is a prize cock just like whichever fan threw it at this match.

On a wind up

To be fair though the police have been known to subvert CCTV footage which shows them in a bad light so this isn't unimpeachable empirical evidence that they didn't provoke the trouble as a lot of fans claimed.

That argument would hold more water if the hooligans from both sides who arranged the fight hadn't gone bragging about it. I think some innocents probably got caught up in it but you can't blame the police for that.

So news breaks of bad behavior by your fans and for the majority of your post you talk about safc fans behavior. Ffs.

See post 7. What is the first thing I condemn? Ah yes, that would be our own support. I did then refer to a relevant incident (another flare thrown) and condemned the behaviour of both sets of supporters in recent years. Your fellow fans took issue with a elements of that which I have also commented on. If you don't want to discuss or feel all threads must stay strictly narrowly focused on one subject then you're probably in the wrong place. You're a sensitive bunch at times <ok>

And your obsessed.

It's a rare occasion brought on by boredom, you frequent our board a lot with not much worth of note. I have dislike of you and all you write so ending this chat, over and out.

Obsession by rokermicko - "for the man who wants to pull a lass who loves cheesy chips"

Another trier sent packing, tail between legs

and a few final words from me.

OK, throwing the flares shouldn't have happened.
It was uncalled for as there were a lot of youngsters in the crowd.

But, lets be clear other than the flares - there was;
NO Violence
NO Bottle Throwing
NO Brick Throwing
NO Verbal Abuse or Taunting between 'rival' fans

It was good humoured banter, between Toon / Heed fans.

So lets not try and make it out as though it was some sort of riot by Toon fans.

In any case, there wouldn't be any trouble between the fans.
Why would there be - Its 'The Geordie Derby' by definition attended by Geordies.
Majority at the game probably lived in Gateshead anyway.

and finally at Monty987

take a look in the mirror before you start throwing stones. If you seriously believe your fans are any better behaved than ours, you're living in dream world full of niceties.

As a Toon fan who experienced the walk (sorry, should have used the words Gauntlet and Fight) to and from Seaburn Station to Joker Park a few times, I know first hand what your so called fans are like. Being caged in at the Roker End at the end of a game, with bottles and bricks flying over the wall amongst us was obviously being done by 'Nice, Fair Minded, Clean Living Members of Society'. Funny enough, I had no real dislike for Sunderland until I was about 17, and about 20 minutes after Tommy Craig smashed in a goal (one of best), I was hit by a bottle thrown by one of the 'Nice, Fair Minded, Clean Living Members of Society' fighting with the Police outside. FFS, you cant even go to a reserve game at SofS without abuse.

We aren't perfect, but don't try and make out your lot are any better than us, cos you're not.
