Not sure how credible this is, but thought I'd share it anyways. @HoskingTheTimes Wonga may ditch its sponsorship of Newcastle Utd. "Everything is on the table," the payday lender's new boss Andy Haste has just told me. https://twitter.com/HoskingTheTimes/status/488648475945738241
There's a Chronicle piece on this but there's also this @larmitstead Wonga insists its puppets are being axed, not Newcastle FC sponsorship. In statement, pay days lenders says it's a "proud sponsor" https://twitter.com/larmitstead/status/488674908319526913
It'd be nice to have a respected sponsor. If it did go tits up with wonga, you can bet your last penny we'd have SD on the shirts as an interim measure.
It would be great to see the back of Wonga, though we'd probably be quickly informed that St James' was the Sports Direct Arena once again. I'd hope we could attract a less unwholesome sponsor fairly quickly. Meanwhile I see Man Utd have agreed a kit manufacture deal with Adidas to the tune of £750million. Adidas are going to pay them £75million per season over a 10 year period. Staggering.
AT LEAST £75m/season "Manchester United plc reaches agreement with adidas Manchester United plc (NYSE:MANU) has reached a ten-year agreement with adidas for a global technical sponsorship and dual branded licensing deal for a minimum guarantee of GBP 750 million, subject to certain adjustments, beginning with the 2015/2016 campaign. For the 2014/2015 season, Nike will continue in its role of technical sponsor and trademark licensee."
