    Hi Gooner in pieces.

It'll be such a shame for football in general if Manchester United were to win the EPL this season.
I know it won't be the first time an ultra defensive team won the league but it will send the message that results mean everything to clubs that are debt ridden and will abondon thier rich culture and history of attacking teams at any expense.

Maybe I'm a romantic but there's only a few teams who look to attack no matter what cost. I'm glad Arsenal are in that minority.

    Regards

Ultra defensive team who have scored more goals than Arsenal in less games <ok>

Though I do wish we would attack no matter what, play "pretty" football and win **** all like Arsenal <doh>

Duh! All United's goals are reflected shots by the other team! We're so defensive, we get peppered with so many shots, that inevitably 3 or 4 a game bounce off our defenders back up the pitch. The opposition's 'keeper is usually asleep due to how boring United are, that these rebounds trickle into their goal.

Did you knwo that Man Utd have only scored 18 goals away from home in the league this season.
Compare this to 35 you scored away from OT the season you won the treble. If you were to match this you'd have to score (on average) over 4 goals in each of your remaing away fixtures. Something that you're obviously not equipped to do.

I'm not slating Man UTD but you guys used to be such an ominous attacking threat regardless of the fixture and now the only priority is to ensure you either get a draw or nick a win. That's not the same Man Utd that acquired such a broad fan base.

Man Utd are simply not the same attacking threat they once were.

Didier Deschamps was correct when he said there is no fantasy in this United team.

Please argue sensibly, these are genuine opinions.

Did you know that in our treble winning season we scored 45 league goals at Old Trafford, this season we already have 39 home league goals.

I've closed this thread on the Arsenal boards so you can carry on your conversation here <ok>
It seems stupid to have two threads on the same subject <ok>

So we lack attacking threat, yet we've scored more goals per game than anyone else in the PL? Doesn't say much for our rivals (like Arsenal) does it?

    Very wise <ok>

Did you know that if we keep up our current scoring record we will score 29 goals away from home this season. Which is four more than Arsenal did in their double winning season of 97/98 and four more than we did in 08/09 when we won the PL and reached the CL final.

Did you also know that if we keep up our current scoring record we will score 83 goals this season. Which is 10 more than the Invincibles in 2004, four more than our Treble winning side and three more than our CL winning side of 07/08. Seems pretty ominous to me, if we are scoring that many more goals than the best Arsenal side ever...

We will also have scored more than any of Arsenal's PL winning sides under Wenger. So, claiming it would be a "shame for football" if we win the PL this season is like admitting that every single one of Arsenal's PL wins were only obtained through ultra defensive play, and hence Arsene Wenger is a shame to football in general.

You must try harder next time...

Aye the short memories of gooners or more accurately the johnny come lately lot. I remember the Arsenal of old: Adams, Bould, Linighan, Winterburn for example. Players who were more adapt on the rugby pitch than a football one and who believed football should be played in the sky and not on the ground.

Ok. Source is the Barclay's Premier League.

    http://www.premierleague.com/page/Statistics/0,,12306,00.html

    Utd 2010/11 - 18 goals in 12 away matches
    1.5 goals per game
Over 19 away games that is 28.5 goals => 29 goals

Arsenal 1997/98 - 25 goals away from home
Man Utd 2008/09 - 25 goals away from home

    Man Utd 2010/11 - 57 goals in 26 games
    2.19 goals per game
    Over a 38 game season that is 83.3 goals => 83 goals

Man Utd 1998/99 - 80 goals (ok, should have said three more goals than this season)
    Man Utd 2007/08 - 80 goals
    Arsenal 2003/04 - 73 goals
    Arsenal 2001/02 - 79 goals
    Arsenal 1997/98 - 68 goals

    And just for the funnies:

So far this season Utd have conceded 25 goals in 26 games.
    That is 0.96 per game
    Over a 38 game season that would be 36.53 => 37

    Arsenal 2003/04 - 26 goals conceded
    Arsenal 2001/02 - 36 goals conceded
    Arsenal 1997/98 - 33 goals conceded

So our "ultra defensive" team that can only win games by defending and not conceding any goals has not only scored more than any of Arsenal's three PL winning sides, but also conceded more. Ergo, our current side is more attack minded than any of Wenger's successful efforts (and quite a few unsuccessful efforts as well). Ergo, Wenger can only win the league by being ultra defensive. When he tries to send out attacking teams, he fails.

You must also learn to count.

He deleted it. I undeleted it cos I thought it was funny to see Mr Nice getting destroyed. Sort of like a scarecrow to frighten away future WUMs. But yeah, it should probably be closed...
