Bristol Rovers new boy Matt Harrold says he can't wait for the new season and is planning on improving his goal return, ThisIsBristol reports. The 6ft 3in targetman signed from Shrewsbury Town last week in what manager Paul Buckle described as a "bargain" deal. Buckle made it clear he saw the 26-year-old's ability to hold the ball up and create goals as his main strengths. But the player himself wants to increase his own goal tally. Harrold made 47 appearances for the Shrews last season, scoring nine goals. But the ex-Yeovil, Southend and Wycombe striker thinks he has more goals in him. He said: "Despite my size, I'm not someone who just heads the ball because I'm comfortable with it at my feet. "I scored a few goals last season, but felt I under-achieved because I could have had a few more. But I did have quite a few assists. "I'd rather be scoring, but I'm happy when the team wins. "I know strikers who score two and are happy with that even if their team loses, but I'd rather be on the winning side." Harrold says his move to Rovers was a bit of a whirlwind, but he is now looking forward to starting the new campaign. He continued: "It all happened pretty quickly and was a bit of a surprise. I had a phone call from my agent saying Bristol Rovers were interested in me and Shrewsbury would be prepared to sell me. "It came as a bit of a shock because I thought I'd had a good season and had really enjoyed my time at Shrewsbury. "But I spoke to Paul Buckle and he was really positive and enthusiastic. I knew what a big club Bristol Rovers was, so after speaking to my family I made my mind up. It's always nice to go somewhere where you are really wanted, so now I'm really looking forward to getting started. "I've played here a few times and I know how well supported the club is and I'm sure we'll do well next season. "I've been promoted from League Two before with Wycombe and it needs a good spirit and togetherness to do that â and obviously good players help as well. "If everyone pulls in the same direction â including the fans â then it helps a lot in getting you where you want to go, which in our case is League One. "The target is to be up the right end of the table and it's a big club which has aspirations to go up. "By bringing in the new manager in and the players they have, it shows ambition. Now it's up to us to stick together and go for it."
