    Is the new captain!

    According to nufc.com

    Captain Colo

    It's reported that Alan Pardew has appointed Fabricio Coloccini as United's new club captain in succession to last season's armband wearers, Alan Smith & Kevin Nolan.

    The Spanish-speaking centre half has been preferred to Joey Barton, seen as the natural candidate by many but entering the final year of his current contract and not always "on message" enough for his employers...

    Good choice. Colo is a very level-headed professional and one of our best players.

    Barton would be a good candidate, but he seems to not play as well when he's captain. Plus, with the things he says about the owners, there's no way in hell he'll be awarded captaincy of the club. He knows that full well.

    Obvious choice really, fan favourite, decent player, presence on the pitch etc I'd be delighted with him Barton or Saylor!

    Only worry is what does this mean for Barton? I he was staying surely he would be captain like last year (when Nolan/Smith was absent)?

    A decent choice! Think we all agreed either Colo or Barton to be captain - wonder what Barton thinks though?

    Lets wait until it's official though!

    Barton would only have had it for one year though, I'd like us to have a captain that lasts more than one season to be honest.

    ^ Well, this evening just took a strange turn. Whenever Colo captains the side I'll be reminded of tash getting an erection watching Blackadder.

    Glad we didnt go for Barton in a way, he's a similar kind of captain to Nolan but not as good, Colo's totally different so it's not like we're replacing Nolan with someone worse for the job.

    Aye, Barton never seemed to be mentally involved in the game either. He was too focused on 'being captain' that he did more talking than actually playing.

    Lets see him respond via twitter shortly then...
