I am definately up for it. Just beginning to get the hang of this now. It is so much involved than the sun one.

Many congrats Fulhamyself, although well done to West London Whites for running it close.

Definately up for another cup if we do it (and might give an opportunity for the Unfair Play League deciders!)

I'd be up for another cup, especially as I'm having a wretched time in all my leagues.

The distinction between 'serious' and 'frivolous' concerns how much I muck about with the rules! This was a 'serious' cup (perhaps 'straightfoward' would have been a better word) because the points scored were on the same basis as the league. I'm talking about something a bit sillier regarding certain criteria scoring double points. My plan for the end of season tournament is The Cottage Cup, where all points scored by present or former Fulham players score double. The frivolous post-Christmas cup (and I've got an idea for how it would work) is more involved than that. All scoring criteria will be announced well in advance so that people have every opportunity to rejig their teams for the cup if they want to. Of course, that might involve weakening your team for the league, so managers then have to decide where their priorities lie. Sadly, I won't have any powers to fine managers who send out weakened teams for the cup because they are concentrating on the league (sigh).

It sounds like a New Year cup of some kind is on. The remaining question is whether we go for a straightforward, same-points-as-the-league cup competition, or something more frivolous/silly/complicated?

    Congratulation, fulhamireland.

It's hard to lose in a game like this, but I have to say it takes balls to play someone like Adebayor in a crucial game like this.

Also, the referee was incompetant, I had a midweek game, fulhamireland only came to rough my team up and we had a lot of injuries. Or somesuch...

Just to prove what a generous bunch we are (or maybe the fool I am), just a reminder to all those with Mark in their teams to swop 'keepers.

Many apologies for the long silence on the cup front. I can happily report that my lengthy negotiations with a sponsor have finally borne fruit. Our next cup competition will be The Alphabetti Spaghetti Bowl, and it will commence in gameweek 24.

The format is simple. Two teams get a bye (Dembele Flops and West London Whites, having had byes last time, are exempt from the possibility of getting byes). The remaining 12 play the first round, with the six winners joining the byes in the quarter final.

For each round, two letters are drawn from the Scrabble Bag of fate. Any players whose names (surname or first forename) begin with one of those letters will score double in the cup. Players with 3 names (we're looking at you, John Arne Riise) ignore their middle names. Names will be taken from the listings on the Fantasy league website to avoid controversy and dispute. Players with the same initial twice (we're looking at you, Damien Duff) will score triple points if their letter comes up, to make up for having less opportunity to feature than duel-lettered players. In the unlikely event of a player having both letters, their score triples rather than quadrupling. If you choose to name a player who is doubling or tripling in the cup as captain, then their captain's doubling still applies to their amended cup score.

    Here's the complete round schedule:

    First Round: gameweek 24
    QF: gameweek 26
    Semi: gameweek 28
    Final: gameweek 30

    Here's the draw:
Byes: Cravendale FC and FFC Madness

    First round:
FulhamDad 13 vs Riley's Oley Oleys
    Europa Dreaming vs Fulhamyself
    Marauders vs Dempsey's Revenge
    Dembele Flops vs McBride's Legion
    West London Whites vs Tootif
12 Danny Cullips vs Megson's Barmy Army

and the magic letters for the first round are: A and R.

To aid anyone who wants to plot a transfer strategy around this cup, the magic letters for the quarter final are D and Y. I'll try to do the semi-final letters in plenty of time before gameweek 28.

And finally, the reason this is so much later than I first planned is that I've finally found my old Scrabble set. Best of luck to one and all.

When I publish the results, I'll try to also list which players have scored double or triple points for each team, and I'm very happy for anyone who thinks I've missed anyone to challenge the result. But my ruling on which players count will be final after the appeal.

by the Way Robin van Persie (for example) will count as R and V, but not P, as the 'van' is part of his surname not just a second forename (unlike the 'Arne' and 'Helge' in the Riise Boys, who will score J and R or B and R respectively. Should have mentioned van players in the original post - sorry.

Alphabetti Spaghetti Bowl first round results. I've listed the players with doubling scores who actually played. If you think I've missed anyone out, this thread is the place to lodge your appeal.

FulhamDad13 46 (doubled points for Reina, Assou-Ekotu, and Dunne. None for Rooney who stayed on the bench
    Riley's Oley Oley's 144 (Richards, Assou-Ekotu, Adebayor, Van Persie

    Europa Dreaming 58 (R.Taylor, Aguero)
    Fulhamyself 67 (R.Taylor, Aguero)

    Marauders 70 (Richards, Assou-Ekotu, Aguero)
Dempsey's Revenge 101 (Williams, Van Persie)

    Dembele Flops 63 (Assou-Ekotu, R.Taylor, Adebayor)
McBride's Legion 129 (Richards, Van Persie)

West London Whites 150 (R.Taylor, Richards, Pilkington, Van Persie, Aguero)
    Tootif 158 (Assou-Ekotu, R.Taylor, Surman, Van Persie)

12 Danny Cullips 55 (Valencia, Aguero)
Megson's Barmy Army 131 (R.Taylor, Van Persie, Williams, but not Assou-Ekotu who remained on the bench)

The draw for the next round (which takes place in gameweek 26) will follow shortly, along with the letters for the semi-final. The next round's letters are D and Y. Congrats to all winners, particulary Megson's Barmy Army for so roundly thrashing the not-so-mighty 12DC. Commisserations to West London Whites - the second highest score of the round, but not enough to make it through thanks to Tootif's impressive 158.

150 points and I lost? Damn, I wish I'd remembered to put RVP as captain... (I'd have scored 174 points).

Sometimes there are just no words.

    Here's the quarter final draw:

    Fulhamyself vs Dempsey's Revenge
    McBride's Legion vs FFC Madness
    Riley's Oley Oleys vs Tootif
Cravendale FC vs Megson's Barmy Army

As previously stated, the ties will be played in gameweek 26, and the magic letters are D and Y.

For the semi-finals, the doubling letters will be I and U (so not so many doubled points there then).

Best of luck to one and all.

Rather belatedly this week (sorry!), here are the results:

Fulhamyself 43 (Doubling players: Dempsey 6)
Dempsey's Revenge 48 (Murphy 6, Dempsey 6, Ba 4. Papiss Demba Cisse does NOT double, as his 'D' comes in the middle of his three names.)

    McBride's Legion 51 (Youness Kaboul's 0 doubles to ... 0)
FFC Madness 34 (Dempsey (captain) 12, Dyer 4)

    Riley's Oley Oley's 52 (Dempsey (captain) 12, Sturridge 4)
    Tootif 58 (Silva 12, Dempsey 6, Dzeko 10, Ba (captain) 8

Cravendale FC 49 (de Gea 9 - a tripled score, no less)
Megson's Barmy Army (Dempsey 6, Silva (captain) 24

    And here's the semi-final draw:

    Dempsey's Revenge vs Tootif
Megson's Barmy Army vs McBride's Legion

Ties to be played gameweek 28. Doubling letters I and U. I'll let you all know what the letters for the final will be when I can get my scrabble bag out again. That's not a euphemism, by the way. Honest.
