The only team that i really wanted to beat in this division was Leicester. Their arrogance has really pi**ed me off the last couple of months, and now its just coming to bite them on the backside. This just goes to show that money does not buy immediate success and i think the Sven maybe one of the first managers to be sacked. As Kevin Keegan said, "I would love it if we beat them" well this time we did! Get in, and on their own soil aswell, makes it even sweeter!!
Juat had a gander at their board - they seem to be having an all out war with the Leeds fans, who of course, consider themselves to be the true masters of the universe... If they are that full of themselves, perhaps SL should post his bank balance on their site - that would shut them up...!
Well done Bristol City! I think I speak on behalf of the whole division, Leicester aside, when I say that the honest team won through. Long may it continue in the face of this horrible, unscrupulous Leicester City outfit.
Cardiff fan, Well done, that striker is something else!!! If it makes you feel better we got beat 3-1 so it happens to every team.
Dear arrogant and blinkered supporters of Leicester City. Have a serious reality check fella's ! We keep Maynard and to put the icing on the cake, we get 3 points from you as well !! You've all been bragging that you'll be in the top 2 at the end of the season but I would seriously revise your predictions downwards if I were you !
A Leicester fan said earlier in the week he "did not consider Bristol City as rivals". I pointed out (more in hope I admit) that if we won at the Walkers we would be level on points with them. I wonder what he's thinking this morning!!
Look at the Leicester board. They're now taking flak from Leeds and Southampton fans..... Hilarious, all the big talk over the last couple of weeks about how big and good they are just seems to have evaporated, as have their chances of getting Maynard. It looks like they are just another average midlands club if you ask me.
"It looks like they are just another average midlands club if you ask me" I have been telling them that for weeks, some of em are ok, but some are off the scale of arrogant! last nights result could only have been better if Nicky had scored that penalty!
A very good result last night. Like Johnny Nash sang though, it leaves more questions than answers. Is it a corner turned or just a delay of the inevitable for Millen? Without Maynard can you be a force, or is he for you what Lambert was for us? I'm glad some of those Leicester fans got a come uppance, and you had Cardiff lose too!
no he not like lambert cause we didnt hate him like quite a few your supports did good player we should have signed him when he left your lot if we do lose him i think we will be fine with pitman and hopefully its a corner turned and its not as bad as last year the start we is still in the carling cup lol
Highlights for anyone who hasn't seen them yet http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14583867.stm?
Leicester fans view of the game - http://thefoxfanzine.wordpress.com/2011/08/18/maynard-leads-the-bristol-stomp/? Sven Goran Eriksson has plenty to think about following City’s second defeat at home in a week at the hands of an ordinary Bristol City side who were gifted three points. There were 5 changes from Saturday’s starting line up with Sean St Ledger, Andy King, Paul Gallagher, Lloyd Dyer and Sean Peltier replacing Matt Mills, Yuki Abe, Jeff Schlupp, John Pantsil and Neil Danns. The opening moments of the match suggested that the changes had made little effect on the performance of the team as Bristol City went ahead inside 4 minutes. A Bristol City free kick on the edge of the area was dealt with poorly and anyone sitting in the Main Stand could see a huge gap in the Leicester defensive wall and sure enough that is exactly where Nicky Maynard slammed the ball when it was rolled sideways to him and Schmeichel was helpless to prevent the shot going in off the post. Bristol could have extended their lead when, soon after, Albert Adomah saw his shot deflected just wide and a calamity was avoided on the stroke of half time when, following a needless challenge on Campbell-Ryce, Bristol were awarded a penalty. Fortunately Nicky Maynard struck the kick against the bar and away to safety. Leicester, in reply, didn’t force a serious save out of Dean Gerken and the fans made their feelings known as the players went down the tunnel at half time. The second half began with City playing some decent football at last and within a few minutes an Andy King header had brought out a stunning save from Gerken to preserve Bristol’s lead but it wasn’t long before Leicester fans were celebrating when, in the 56th minute, the outstanding David Nugent took a pass from Gallagher and struck a lovely shot in to the far corner although Gerken may feel he should have done better. This lifted the home fans and the volume increased a few minutes later when Gallagher was put clean through on the angle but his shot was screwed wide when he should have hit the target. This period of pressure towards the Bristol goal was interrupted in the 66th minute by a calamitous piece of defending when Sean St Ledger dithered too long on the ball near the halfway line and he was dispossessed by Nicky Maynard who raced away and planted the ball past the helpless Schmeichel to give Bristol City the lead again. They could scarcely believe it and neither could the City players or fans and especially St Ledger who stood alone with his head in his hands and cut a very sorry figure indeed. The remainder of the game was a frustrating affair with Bristol City throwing men behind the ball and defending their lead with only a few scares to speak of. It was a poor show again from Leicester who are testing the patience of their fans who had such high expectations before the season began. It is hard to fathom; there is genuine quality in the Leicester squad but whatever Sven is trying simply isn’t working and there is little evidence of the attacking edge that overwhelmed some teams last season and, just as worrying, the side looks error prone and lacking confidence. Anyone who went think this is a fair assessment?
A draw would have been a fair result. You took your chances (apart from a penalty) and we didn't though. Thats how you win football matches and untill Nugent has some support we won't, i'm afraid.
