Seriously for a second here, after the recent ****e from this ****wit, including this, do you seriously think Dr Allam should bite the bullet and make conciliatory gestures towards him and make an effort to engage him in a business proposition again?

    Be honest.

If you do still think that, would *you* in the same situation as Dr Allam do that?

    Again, be honest.

I think its a done deal.

It makes economic sense for Allamhouse to hand the SMC (or lease) back to the council, especially if Hull City Tigers Limited gets to use a 35,000 seat stadium for the same rent it pays the SMC.

To do that he doesn't have to do any business with Geraghty.

Yes you've made that clear in the past. Deal done or not, would you expect Dr Allam to talk to TG and deal with him?

I expect the deal was done without Geraghty's input at all.

That's an odd expectation given the portfolio he holds.

I think the fact its a full moon tonight is a clear indicator the Allams have done the deal with the council and handed the smc back to them. TG has used this impending full moon to mention building the swimming pool in town as a softening up process for citing the pool and the ice rink on Walton St thus using the fridge experiment to heat the KC pitch
    Interesting times.

Add to that the £500k spunked on a feasibility study to tell us what a simple visit to Trinity House could have told us. The North Bank of the Humber is not deep enough to house a Passenger Liner Terminal or HMS Illustrious.
The £200k 'feasibility study' could have been narrowed down to couple of quid spent on a tape measure which would have told them you cannot fit a 50m swimming pool in to a space that isn't, erm, 50m.

The Illustrious thing was a complete waste of time and money(£80k), but the cruise terminal should still go ahead.

While HCC are messing about figuring out that you can't build an Olympic size swimming pool on a site smaller than an Olympic size swimming pool, ERYCC are building this £25m facility in Bridlington...

There was a triathlon in the city centre yesterday. Wouldn't have known anything about it if I hadn't walked past monument bridge bus stop the day before and seen a notice.

Well I say that. When I mentioned it to our lass, her reply was 'yeah, we got a letter warning us about it ages ago'.

    Cheers love.

The HDM did a piece about it in April and posted some pictures of it yesterday, but I don't remember anything in between...

Aye. Did a bit of a Google search myself when I saw. The only news item I found was that April one.

Missed it due to working, but I walked past them setting up in the morning and it looked well organised.

£750k for Beverley Road Baths and Ennerdale as Hull 'Olympic' swimming pool scrapped
PLANS for an Olympic-sized swimming pool in Hull have been scrapped, with hundreds of thousands of pounds set to be invested into the city's existing leisure centres instead.

The proposals for a 50m swimming pool for an area of disused land in Hull city centre wererevealed last year. But Councillor Terry Geraghty, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, has said the money will instead be directed into refurbishing both Beverley Road Baths, in west Hull, and east Hull's Ennerdale Leisure Centre instead.

"We were looking at a giant swimming pool, but the fact is, instead of a 50m pool, we might as well refurbish the existing ones instead," he said.

"It keeps with our procedure of keeping and maintaining services like Beverley Road and Ennerdale Sports Centre.

"It all makes sense. Everything there will be brought up to a good standard, and we want to improve the centres we are already lucky to have in the city. That's our aim."

The upgrade will include a £250,000 makeover of Beverley Road Baths and a £500,000 upgrade to Ennerdale Leisure Centre, which will include a £110,000 refurbishment of the gym facilities.

The work, which will start this year, is also combined with a £200,000 makeover of Hull City Hall, with new kitchen facilities included.

"It's important because, as far as we are concerned, we have got the new pool coming up at Woodford Leisure Centre, and now we are going to have top-class facilities at Beverley Road Baths and Ennerdale," Cllr Geraghty said.

"We have always been renowned for having swimming pools in different parts of the city, and this is our strategy we are going to maintain and keep on providing a good service to the public.

"Hopefully, the upgrades will encourage more and more people to go swimming because it is a very healthy sport."

Cllr Geraghty said the works were part of £3m set to be invested in Hull by the leisure team in two and a half years.

He said he thought the changes would be welcomed by the public.

"I think it will be well received," he said.

"People thought last year we were going to close Ennerdale, but the work and the money going into the gym, along with hopefully the new cycling track, proves not only that we are not closing it, but that we are working to create better facilities for people there.

"The changes should be great to encourage to get more people into water sports in the city. We are really excited by them."

The Ennerdale pools were threatened with closure in 2013 until a cash injection from the NHS safeguarded their immediate future.
