UK, act to free Raif Badawi
please log in to view this image

Tomorrow, Saudi Arabia plans to once again flog blogger Raif 50 times in public, after Friday prayers.
It has been three weeks since he was first beaten, but despite state visits to Saudi Arabia and international outcry, the UK government has failed to publicly join the call for Raif's freedom.
It is unacceptable for the UK government to remain silent. The UK needs to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to human rights and speak out.

    Dear Sean,
While David Cameron and Prince Charles visited Saudi Arabia at the weekend, Raif Badawi was languishing in jail, his next 50 lashes scheduled just days away.
Our leaders may have left Saudi Arabia, but Raif remains imprisoned, facing 50 lashes every week until he has been publicly caned a colossal 1,000 times. He will remain imprisoned for a decade. All this for creating a website that advocated free speech.
Take action: Ask the UK Embassy to speak out for Raif’s freedom
Our leaders have publicly lamented the death of the late king of Saudi Arabia, but failed to speak of his regime’s human rights abuses.
Over a million people have signed our petition for Raif’s freedom. Yet despite the international outcry, our government has chosen not to publicly ask for Raif to be freed.
Now we need you to ask the UK Ambassador to Saudi Arabia to use his influence to do all he can to work for Raif's freedom.
The UK government’s reluctance to call for Raif’s freedom and to criticise widespread human rights abuses by the Saudi state sends a powerful message to the Saudi Arabian authorities that it is business as usual, regardless of the regime’s flagrant disregard for human rights.
Ask our new Ambassador to Saudi Arabia to work to free Raif Badawi

This week a new British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia takes up this post in Riyadh. We need him to urgently and publicly raise Raif’s case with authorities there, and to ask permission to visit Raif in prison.

Call on the UK Embassy in Saudi Arabia to demand that Raif is freed
Time is running out until Raif is next scheduled to be flogged tortured . Ask our government not to delay in calling for his freedom.
    Thank you,

Here's a solution. Apparently there has been a big rise in the amount of religiously slaughtered animals, because religious people like their meat to have been terrified before death, stunning animals first is a sin. Perhaps the animal rights activists could take them on, rather than beating up people who organise drag hunts. Two birds with one stone?

Killed for being gay: ISIS savages blindfold man and throw him off tower block - then stone him to death when he SURVIVED the fall

WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT: New images have emerged appearing to show ISIS militants blindfolding a man (left) before hurling him off a tower block (right) as punishment for 'being gay' in the Syrian town of Tal Abyad. The man, who was supposedly being punished for having a 'homosexual affair', apparently survived the fall, but was stoned to death by a waiting crowd at the foot of the tower block (inset).

    That's some horrific sh*t Kiwi.

Norwich City's own Stephen Fry was on TV the other night and he's got the Holy Joes up in arms over what he said about God. Imams and Priests have been on the radio today laying into him over it.

The Jordanian Pilot captured a couple of months back has been executed, put in a cage and burned alive. It probably happened before they were negotiating the release of one of their terrorists last week. They really are beyond sadistic...

There is a description of Stephen Fry that goes something like this:

'Stephen Fry is an unintelligent person's idea of what an intelligent person looks like.'

    I rather like that.

All this reminded me of a quote from Scott D. Weitzenoffer about creationists.

'Debating creationists on the topic of evolution is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon — it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory.'

The same applies to these people, they aren't rational, moral and they appear not to want to negotiate in any way.

Copenhagen free speech debate shooting: One dead
Gunmen have killed one person and injured three police officers at a free speech debate in Copenhagen attended by a controversial Swedish cartoonist, officials say.
The French ambassador was also present at the seminar.
Reports say up to 40 shots were fired and a manhunt has been launched.
Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, who has previously faced death threats over caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, was unhurt.
Shortly after the shooting, a message appeared on the Twitter feed of French ambassador Francois Zimeray saying he was still alive.
In an audio recording which emerged from the attack, one of the speakers at the debate is suddenly interrupted by a barrage of gunshots.
Eyewitness Niels Ivar Larsen, speaking to the Associated Press news agency, said: "I heard someone firing with an automatic weapon and someone shouting.
"Police returned fire and I hid behind the bar."

Emergency services gather at the scene following the attack
The area around the venue is under lockdown, reports the BBC's Malcolm Brabant.
Police have erected cordons and are searching a nearby park, he adds.
Officials say they are hunting for two suspected attackers who fled the scene in a car.
    Strict security
The debate, which took place in a cafe, was described on a personal website of Lars Vilks as a talk on whether any limits should be placed on artistic expression or freedom of speech.

Eyewitness Dennis Myhoff-Brink: "We heard...20 or 30 shots...and a person yelling something in Arabic"
A description of the event asked whether artists could "dare" to be blasphemous in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo terror attacks by Islamist gunmen in Paris last month.
In an indication of the threat faced by the cartoonist, a note was included on the website saying there was always "strict security" whenever the artist spoke in public.
An organiser of Saturday's event, Helle Merete Brix, told BBC World TV it was being guarded by armed police and security agents from the Danish intelligence service, as well as Mr Vilks' own bodyguards.
She said she clearly considered the incident an attack on Mr Vilks, the Associated Press news agency reported.

Lars Vilks stoked controversy in 2007 by drawing pictures of the Prophet Muhammad dressed as a dog.
In 2010 two brothers tried to burn down the cartoonist's house in southern Sweden and were imprisoned for attempted arson.

Satirists targeting Islam have been in the spotlight since the January attacks in France, when 17 people were killed in separate incidents over a three-day period.
French President Francois Hollande said Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve would visit the Danish capital as soon as possible.
A message from the president's official Twitter feed said Mr Hollande expressed his solidarity with Denmark's Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.
Cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad were published by a Danish newspaper in 2005, sparking deadly riots in some Muslim countries.
