Today is deadline day to submit an application to host the 2026 World Cup.

There's only two applications, North America (US, Mexico & Canada) and Morocco.

    Decision in June.

Yeah... just give that one to the North Americans now.

Though I personally wouldn't consider Mexico North America, more Central America.

You've started it. It's too obvious to be fair, but I'm sure you'll struggle until someone helps you. <ok>

I know Central America isn't an actual continent or official area, it's more a personal choice. Same as the Caribbean, usually I look at it as it's own thing rather than North America.

In reality North and South America are separated by the Panama Canal.

I was always taught north and South America aren't separate continents and it's just the Americas. A quick internet search seems to suggest there's no global rule on this, but the Olympic Rings are meant to symbolise the 5 inhabited continents aren't they?

sou Central America consists of seven countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.
Part of it is. It is a big country after all.

The Panama Canal that Mexico is to the North of? Which would make it in North America.

In reality the Panama Canal has nothing to do with.. There have been areas known as North America, Central America and South America long before the Panama Canal was born. As someone else said they are all part of the continent known as The Americas.

For population size Mexico have seriously underachieved at the World Cup.

If they get it, this'll be their third host tournament (although they stepped in for '86) which seems unfair.

Morocco would be decent actually, the stadiums are already there and they have 8 that are over 30,000 in capacity. Spreading a World Cup over three countries, three rather large countries is a bit stupid.

Not to mention Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Japan which in addition to the three I mentioned and the USA all have larger populations than Mexico. In fact Brazil is the only country with a larger population than Mexiconwhich has done well at World Cups.

As a large population is no guarantee of success why haven't we had the success of larger cities?

In truth, unless Hull was a host city, I couldn’t care less about it being in England.

But, it’s the insult, the lack of respect of not getting it again that grates with me.

    Germany (inc BRD) x 2, France x 2, Brazil x2 and Mexico x 2.

Obviously, if North American bid is successful, then ****ing USA will have had it more times than us.

We codified the sport. We 'gave' it to the world. We should be acknowledged.

In truth then you will never be interested in a World Cup in England then. Unless you count World Cups of category b sports.

I'd say it's possible that we could be a host city, because...

The World Cup is getting bigger (40 teams in 2022/6 I think), could be even bigger still by the time England has it again.

    Hull's on the rise.
