Do you know something I really can't be bothered because whatever I say you'll disagree with, I've said my thoughts previously on this thread and I'm not going to reiterate them.......he's better than your "run of the mill" description......

    I'm out of this one....goodnight

Indeed a top bloke. Spent some time with him over a beer last year at a mutual friends birthday and had to apologise for throwing the ball away from him after I got it in the loft in the last game before he moved on! Fantastic keeper.

Smithies confirms he’s on the verge of signing QPR deal

    By David McIntyre 13/02/2017

QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies expects to sign a contract extension in the next few days.

Rangers believe the new deal could be sorted by the end of the week following discussions with the 26-year-old.

Smithies’ current contract expires in 2018 and he has consistently indicated that he would be happy to re-sign.

“I’d like to think it’ll be wrapped up quite shortly,” he said.

“Things are ongoing. I think there’s been a lot going on at the club with the (pursuit of a new) ground and things like that, so people have been busy.

“I would certainly like to sign a new contract and I believe the club want me to sign one too, so I think everything is progressing on that front.

“Nothing happens overnight in that respect but I’m hoping to get it done. It’s definitely progressing.”

Smithies’ outstanding performances for Rangers have inevitably led to speculation he could be targeted by other clubs.

It was claimed that Aston Villa were keen to sign him during last month’s transfer window.

But Smithies insisted: “I don’t pay attention to it really. I don’t massively read the media.

“People might tell me about things but I don’t take much notice of it – I know when I’ve been playing well and when I’ve not.”

Good if he's nailed down, we'd be in the bottom three without him this season...

Oh dear. Yet another example that shows that you really don't know what a good footballer is.
Seaman was an outstanding keeper. Unfortunately he'll always be remembered for England because of that free kick he mis-judged in the world cup against Brazil.
In my opinion Smithies is a very good championship keeper and nothing more.

He was aite. Played behind a brilliant defence at Arsenal which helped. Don't remember him being particularly great or awful for England overall.

If the club is truly too busy to extend the contract of the best keeper in the division while finding time to resign the much more questionable Luongo then I truly do despair. More likely, he and his agent know how good he is and how sought after he will become and are looking for a significant deal that may be outside the current policy. The club should pay his demands as long as they are not too unreasonable as a decent return is guaranteed if we need to sell later.

Having been to Huddersfield on a night out his decision is completely understandable. Makes Swindon look like Monaco in comparison.

    Great Keeper.

Good signing by QPR as Smithies pens deal until 2020. Good statement of intent by the club.
