No it wasn't worse, but if any of the prison vans transporting arrested London rioters were ambushed, I suspect they too would have been shot <ok>

nb - I would have had no problem with the army being drafted in to sort out the London riots!!

But it most certainly wouldn't have been the Army doing it! That's the point. It was an example of authorised shoot to kill. By the Government. Appalling. Churchill should have been hanged for it.

That's not the point at all - The 2 shot by the army in Liverpool were trying to ambush a prison van - pretty stupid really considering it was surrounded by an army convoy - what did they expect the army officers to do?

In 2015 Police shot Jermaine Baker for trying to free Izzet Eren, 32, and Erwin Amoah Gyamfi, 29, who were due to be sentenced for aggravated vehicle taking and possession of a firearm.

It may be your point, but getting back to my point, you simply underline it. They were under Churchill's command. 2 shot dead by army in Liverpool (which I was unaware of, tbh), and a further 2 shot dead in Wales. Add to that, he sent tanks - yes, bloody tanks!!! - into Glasgow around the same time. Considering most of the people were either on the streets, or supporting the demonstrators, he could hardly say he was doing it for the people. He was doing it for the mine owners if truth be told.

So we're back to the same question - who, apart from Churchill & Dalrymple has authorised the British Army to kill British subjects (I exclude NI, as that's a different subject altogether).

That's an easy one - David Lloyd George - 306 British and Commonwealth soldiers were executed during WW1 for desertion and cowardice - many of those should be pardoned as they were suffering from what is now called shell shock.

You know fine I'm talking about civilians, but well done for looking it up. My question still stands, with 'civilians' replacing 'subjects'. :D

    You'd be surprised.

Lord North ordering the army to shoot at civilains during The Gordon Riots in 1780 - 285 civilians shot dead!!

Or should we discuss the opening post - where someone ****ed up by pretending the Deutche Bank cut-backs which have been happening because of miss-management for the last 15 years was down to Brexit <laugh>

Impressive work, TC. <applause> Was completely unknown to me - and tbf to myself, not widely known, I'd imagine.

Still doesn't make Churchill's action any less despicable though, does it?

    .............And it continues

New car sales down 9% year on year in July

Fall in pound and increased inflation with low wage growth = people putting off decisions

I wonder what all this is due to?

Nothing to do with Brexit obviously....
Chesh is happy in his Stoke bunker so all is well with the economy.
These fluctuations were solely due to the referendum and not actual brexit.
A year after the referendum it will be all through the system and things will be better than before.... Oh wait a minute.

    More gloom

RBS reported a half-year profit for the first time in three years, its latest results showed on Friday.
The bailed-out lender made £939m in the first half of 2017, up from a £2bn loss a year ago.

    &

BRITAIN’S financial sector is predicted to double in size over the next 25 years, according to the Bank of England Governor Mark Carney.

This I find really strange, as a cheery old soul said they'd all be fooking off to Frankfurt <laugh>
