I have little to no hope for us this season. I think that's actually the best attitude for the good of my mental health.
Norton, I mentioned in my thread on Basics in defending the need to close down and prevent a shot from coming in (see how well Bournemouth did this on a number of occasions against Spurs yesterday). Yesterday when the ball arrived at the feet of Reid,we had two Sunderland players in close proximity.Reid had to control the ball and get it onto his left foot to shoot. There was ample time for either of these two or BOTH of them to get in front of Reid and prevent the shot from coming in and hence saving us a point. Having watched the goal again, there were at least four West Ham players behind our defensive line, one of which was impeding our goalkeeper, got to say I agree with Moyes that the goal should not have stood. If we had scored a goal identical to that at the other end,you could bet your arse that it would have been disallowed!!!!
Moyes is an unlucky manger.....lots of injuries and several last minute goals against. He has made poor buys Love McNair Dillyjelly and poor loans Deynar Anchovy He makes poor last 20 subs (Everton fans warned us of this ) He is a miserable sod and unlikely to get the team up for the battle IMHO like
I agree Gil, when we have our full squad available for selection however thin on the ground that squad is then I feel we have a real chance. Other than 15 minutes when we went to sleep against Everton we haven't actually been outplayed all season. There are at least three worse teams than us, Hull, Boro, Swansea, Burnley are in that group, we just have to ensure we aren't cut any further adrift at the bottom by the end of November. KTF.
I'm on that we will stop up bus. This is Sunderland. As always before we get any pleasure they put us through the grinder. A bit like my two past marriages....
I've no idea what your logic is behind that statement Cumbrian. You're going to need to explain that one to me. We're cut adrift already and I don't see that position improving any time soon.
The league table doesn't usually lie Vin. I know you're supposed to wait until the end of the season but I just don't believe it's lying at the minute. We've had medium to long term injuries on first teamers in a threadbare squad though thankfully they are slowly coming back. We've got 1 proven striker. For me that's the killer. Past seasons have been bad enough, but Short has left us well and truly under resourced like no other season we've had in years. And to cap it all, we now have a manager who, to be honest, I was happy with before the window closed but who couldn't get a striker in under any contractual agreement, permanent or loan, and who I now believe just doesn't have the charisma or man management skills to raise this team enough to give us a fighting chance until the January window. The outlook is as bleak as Mccarthy's last season for me. The one silver lining is the fat cheque well get at the end of the season. Well be one of the richest clubs in the Championship by a long way. Apologies for the rambling pessimism.
I understand your frustration as is mine. I live in hope that the others continue to be poor as we are. However with the near returns of injured players we may just pick up a few points untill the January window. All this will mean little if the others mentioned don't continue there bad runs
Boro haven't won in seven matches, yes they dug out a good result yesterday but aren't scoring goals. Hull having had a good start are now shocking. Burnley can't rely on their home form all season and again aren't scoring many goals. All three clubs are newly promoted and dont have our experience at the ****ty end of this league, so as the campaign unfolds I expect us to improve I can't say the same for these three. We have the worst injury list in the league and we will improve when we have a full squad. I've included Swansea cos their Welsh and shouldn't be playing in our league, but seriously they have just taken a massive gamble on a Yank manager with no experience in this league. You can bring this post up in May, if I'm wrong but I dont think I will be.
are there 3 teams worse than us..................don't think so. At the moment keeping sunderland up makes the Brexit negotiations look like a walk in the park. After years of bad recruitment the chickens have come home to roost.
Not at the moment, but there are at least three or four with similar squads to us, and our task is to finish above three of them, a change of luck might be all that is needed and that cant come soon enough. ktf
It's a funny old game, but what I cannot fully understand is why people feel we are doomed already. We have come close to a win at Soton, draws at Spurs and WHU but people want to dwell only on the poor performances without allowing for the horrendous injury list that has robbed us of the more experienced players. Not many clubs could withstand losing so many players over such a short time without it having a big impact. Moyes is at least a battler who wants to get on with the job using the tools he has and right now that is not easy. Manager appointments are always a gamble, just ask ManU, but at least we know we have one that has trod this path before at Everton. He's a redeemer for me and I see no reason to give up at this early stage. It may do some of you good to remember that hero Allerdyce did not get it right even when he signed the players he wanted and only our last few games were memorable from last season.
