Adam Armstrong was hailed by his England under-18 team-mates as he scored the only goal in a 1-0 friendly win over Switzerland on Thursday.

The Newcastle striker found the net in the 48th minute at St. George's Park after his initial effort had been parried by Gregord Kobel, who had a fine game in goal.

Indeed, it was only the form of the Swiss keeper which prevented Armstrong from adding to his tally but he still proved to be the matchwinner.
"Arma has done it over the last few years when we've been involved with England," skipper Ryan Ledson told TheFA.com.

"He did it last year and he is doing it again this year, and you always feel confident with him up front that he will get you a goal."

Defender Jonjoe Kenny, who like Ledson plays for Everton, added: "Being a full-back, it's great to see he is always there as an option whenever I have the ball. He helps my game a lot, he works so hard, so it's great having someone up front like that.

"We have a great combination on and off the field, so I'm really made up to see him hit the net again."

England's under-17s beat Romania 2-1, with Paul Woolston rested having played in their two previous games, while Freddie Woodman was an unused substitute as England under-19s beat Denmark 3-2 in France.

Meanwhile in Paris, Moussa Sissoko started for France as they lost 3-1 to Brazil. The Magpies midfielder was substituted in the 74th minute.

And in Saint-Lo, Olivier Kemen captained Les Bleus' under-19 side as they beat Azerbaijan 2-0 in a European Championships qualifier.

Lubo Satka played the full game at right-back as Slovakia under-21s beat Norway's under-23s 4-1. Nineteen-year-old Satka impressed on his first under-21 start as Slovakia dominated throughout.

Also on Thursday, Academy defender Michael Newberry, 17, played 90 minutes as Northern Ireland's under-19s drew 1-1 with their Netherlands counterparts.

Apparently he's been taking tips on scoring from Rooney.
That explains why I saw him pumping a 60 year old lady round the side of the Strawberry the other week... :emoticon-0119-puke:
