Thai, but there are multiple Chinese owners already in football and none of them have 'rocked' the football world. WBA, Wolves and recently Reading to name a few.
Not exactly setting the world alight either. One thing for certain, Ashley won't sell unless it suits him.
Not sure how I feel about this. I know the FA have modified the criteria for this kind of thing but I'm still uneasy.
Can't see it, in some twisted way I think he might have unsettled business with a club he's dragged through the mud. But then I remember sports direct arena and think what the **** am I on about
Two minds here. Better the devil and all that, but by the same token he said "the club will spend every penny it generates". Given we generated fck all from our year in the Championship, I'm not sure we're ready with a £80m warchest and it might be better to twist than stick, as we'll need to spend to stay up. Also falls directly in line with Ashley's other promises - this is precisely the time he suggested he would reconsider selling up plus we "won something"..... Promotion, big fan base, big stadium, big manager. Lot to buy into, particularly given the amount of money in China.
I can't see anything positive in a Chinese Investment consortium for us, they are not going to be in for big spending as they are in business to realise a return on investment, what they are seeing are big profits in the PL over the next couple of years.
It's a consortium headed by this guy: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wang_Jianlin And also backed by the wanda group (whixh he founded(. They are heavily into property and brand investment. Wang J owns 20% of Althletico Madrid and is worth 31 billion. My guess is they will buy a stake then gradually up it. Not sure how I feel about this. It's like rolling a dice.. we have a 3.... could roll a 6.... but equally a 1. Hope it doesn't disrupt transfer business too much.
The Chinese think long term. They will see massive market potential when the EPL takes off properly in China so are backing a winning horse.
Never thought l would say this but l hope Ashley sticks with us at least until Rafa has had a good crack at rebuilding the team. I just don't see any benefit in a Chinese consortium as far as the Rafalution is concerned, if anything it would make me worry about Rafa's future again. I would prefer to stick with the devil we know.
