Despite the Rangers being relegated the 24-year-old impressed a host of Premier League clubs last season, scoring three goals and creating eight assists during a difficult campaign. Aston Villa, Leicester and Crystal Palace were interested in Phillips but the Mirror report that it is the Baggies who have landed the Scotland international in a deal worth more than the winger’s £7m valuation. West Brom missed out on signing former Chelsea striker Demba Ba last month, unable to compete with Shanghai Shenhua’s lucrative offer of more than £100,000-a-week. PHILLIPS BID REJECTED West Brom have had a bid rejected for Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips, according to Sky sources. We understand QPR want more than £7m for him, and we have been told that negotiations are ongoing.
"Meanwhile, the Sunday Mirror say Sunderland, recently linked with Phillips, are ready to make a £2.5m bid for Hoilett and that German club Borussia Monchengladbach are also interested in the R’s winger."
I would too. If we can get a bidding battle going between Sunderland and the Germans, fine, otherwise take what's offered. Never quite sure why Hoilett didn't work out for us. I suppose we should just be thankful for that misplaced pass that bounced off the Derby defender into OBZ's path... That was Junior's crowning moment. Says it all really
What did we end up paying for Hoilett? I seem to remember that we had to pay compensation because of age at the time.
According to Wiki, it was a 4 year contract for an unspecified fee decided by a tribunal. Wiki also says: "In January 2012, Hoilett was named one of the 13 players to watch in 2012 by world football governing body FIFA."
Shame we are selling this player, thinking he would be in his element, with us in the Championship. Where are the rest of our new buys?
I'm not expecting too many more arrivals until we sell some of our better assets. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing tbh!
£3.5m I believe. Plus a mere £2.5m a year wages. Not bad for a bloke with no discernible qualities as a footballer.
