Sure, Milburn had absolutely no influence on the Arctic Monkeys at all! Doesn't matter what Alex Turner has said on the matter, you know best!
When Milburn started off, they didn't sound like the Monkeys, though obviously later they both sounded very similar. This is perhaps not a surprise, as they were mates and were regularly playing together, the Monkeys drummer played with Milburn and Milburn's guitarist has toured with the Monkeys. I don't think Joe Carnall particularly likes the comparisons with the Monkeys, from an interview in 2007... Erm, do you think you owe quite a lot of your success to the Arctics? No. Any of it? Erm, to get awareness and that, yeah, definitely. Because they opened up the media’s eyes, and people’s eyes to Sheffield music, which is great. But we do write out own songs, you do realise, it’s not Alex. Yeah obviously we appreciate what they’ve done, because we went on tour with them a few times, maybe that was a good, and stupid thing to do. But we got to know people and put our music out there, but, erm, kinda poisoned chalice really isn’t it. Matt (Drummer from Arctics,) has played at a couple of your gigs before. Yeah. Actually our drummer taught him to drum. Really? That’s a fact. Mm, that is a fact. Not many people know that, because I don’t think they want to. http://thomcurtis.co.uk/interviews/joe-carnall-of-milburn/ Milburn in 2001... Milburn in 2003... By 2003 the Arctic Monkeys were already playing Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor, Mardy Bum, Fake Tales Of San Fransisco, Dancin' Shoes etc.
Talentless is a bit harsh, but they're League One or Two compared to the so called "indie" bands that blazed a trail in the '80s.
... absolutely ... Dollar were completely average until Trevor Horn stepped in on 'Give.Me Back My Heart' ...
The Fall. Seeing them on Glastonbury has just reminded me of how I can never get my head round the hero worship of their ****ing awful "singer." Complete dogshite.
The Fall have recorded so many diverse songs that it's hard to label them in any way. There is a lot of arty sh*te, but there are lots of gems too - Container Drivers, 2 x 4, The Man Whose Head Expanded (Peel Sessions version), Fiery Jack, Room To Live etc etc
Absolute bollocks. Prince Buster had his ska style before Hendrix emerged, his style never changed once Hendrix came to prominence so please explain how exactly Hendrix influenced Prince Buster? Your reasoning that as they were making music at the same time then it is inevitable that there would be an overlap is ridiculous. The Stones are still playing, so are One Direction therefore by your logic there is an overlap and One Direction have influenced The Stones.
How the **** does anyone 'get' Kanye West? Even though I felt it beforehand, that Glastonbury performance pretty much confirmed it.
