Huge article/interview in the Times magazine on the life and works of Joey/Joe/Joseph Barton (unemployed). Excellent PR, not a critical word in it. Not a word of apology either, as he continues his journey of self discovery through philosophy, Twitter and football. Can't promise to keep the 'wolf inside' (as opposed to the violent thug inside, but wolf is a subtly more romantic and attractive image, isn't it?) at bay, but that appears to be the fault of Huyton and his Dad. Everything is framed in the context of 'winning'. Unconscious irony or what.

The sentence "He is widely regarded as a creative, accomplished midfielder" is used in the article, leading me to assume the interview was conducted by the Twitter correspondent, rather than someone who has watched him play.

Here's a word for you Joey - narcissistic.

Sorry, the Times doesn't allow links to be copied.

If the path to redemption is through football why is he not signed up to someone with whom he can continue his flow through the river of life.

Nowt to do with money is it?
That is a base suggestion ...I apologise

I suspect Beth it's because he has just refurbished his large house opposite Kew Gardens. Probably means he wants to stay there, limiting his options with clubs, i.e. waiting for a call from Reading. Brentford have a proper recruitment policy, no hope there. He probably assumed we would offer him a new contract. :emoticon-0100-smile

Wow! Those are seriously priced houses even for an ex-PL footballer. Wonder if I'll bump into him in Kew one day.

He was on around £3 million a year with us, that's £12 million so he could probably afford a couple of mansions on the river...

What's he got to apologise for exactly?
I like Joey...he's his own man and doesn't seem to like to conform to the majority. A character.

I think we're being a bit harsh on Joey.
Keep in mind, he is now unemployed and obviously in need to publish articles in hope of securing another job.
He's more than likely trying his hand at journalism or alike to make a crust.
Next, he'll be changing his name to Caitlyn just to get some added attention.
Come on people, let's not kick someone when their down ................ to their last 10 million pounds.

Bit hard for me to comment on this ( never watch too many games ) but only from what I've read here over the past few years, I would have thought the opposite and that he'd be a good player for us this season.

Happy to think that ship has finally sailed - was pleased he seemed to turn it around in his final season for us and worked hard, but not as good as he thinks he is - Cons: poor distribution, poor dead ball delivery - Pros: a good engine and experience (but that's probably in decline given his age). Made a lot of mistakes last season and has always the potential to implode in the big games, so overall I'm much happier with our new direction without him.

A character. I'm talking generally. It's not always about the football. I like his type, a bit of a maverick.

You're correct seagull, 'That ship has finally sailed.' CR & LF have a strict new policy and guidelines on how staff and players use social media. There's no way Barton would adhere to this, so he wouldn't ever be coming back. That's aside from the ridiculous wages he thinks he deserves and expects.
