Had some bonza fish n chips at "the cods scallops" yesterday. They do a great range and both the haddock and skate are very good but i thought id have a change and tried the monkfish, bloomin amazing! Bah!
Now down Spoonies' for their steak night (14oz Aberdeen Angus!!) and they've got Oakham Citra on #brilliant With my CAMRA card and 20% discount only £8.45 #bargain
Cutting back on the Drinking, upping the exercise. As I've got a new larger fridge, I'm looking to install a few session Ales and largers. Rather than just getting a large pack of on offer beers, or wine going to pick some nice ones just to have as a treat. Now and again. I got a few Peroni as I like them ice cold on a hot evening, also some Tribute Pale Ale. I'm looking at Camden Hells Larger as I had that out once, and was really refreshing. Think they now do them in some Supermarkets. Ghost Ship is also in contention. Anyone got any belters they have discovered? Or ones that you can't get enough of at the moment?
I'm a BIG fan of most Oakham beers - Bishop's Farewell, Scarlet Macaw (though I think that may only be available at certain times of the year) and if you like something a bit stronger - Green Devil is 6% ABV. Bullards' beers have started appearing in some pubs and I think it's their number 1 and 3 are very pleasant, as are some of the beers on offer from Norfolk Brewhouse. If you ever venture into the city and get a bus or a lift home - visit the Plasterer's Arms just off Anglia Square - you won't be disappointed. Doon;t forget to order a freshly made Pizza whilst you're there!!!
The Plasterers Arms looks fantastic! I never really go out that far in that direction of the City, so would be a nice little wander out to there. I'm guessing if I wanted to take the girlfriend out for a (stunning looking) pizza and a couple of drinks, a Friday and Saturday night would be rammed? Is it better for a week night treat?
It's certainly quieter midweek, but you may have to wait for a table at the weekend, but looks like they have a DJ later on a Saturday (>8.30pm), so best to get there a bit earlier. Great selection of beers and maybe a venue for a ' Not606' get together - anyone up for it????
Cheers bud. Will try and find it on a week night to try it out and familiarise myself with the area. I think Fat Cat is out that way too isn't it? Another place I have known of for many, many years, but never been out that way on a night out to find it. I'll probably try and combine both in the same night.
The Fat Cat is just over a mile away, but if you want another real ale pub in that area, try the King's Head is just up from Anglia Square - it's been voted CAMRA pub of the year several times in the last few years and the Ribs of Beef is near there too, which is a little more 'upmarket' if you have WAG in tow.
We have been to RoB a few times in the past. That's around about the area we have reached in that direction. I think we went further that way one day on a Sunday. But everything's closed then. Next time I fancy a train into Norwich, I'm taking us to that area.
If you like real ale, then both the Plasterers and the King's Head are a must. There's also a very good Indian across the road from the KH (can't think of it's name now, but used to be Spice Paradise and some different curries to the standard ones)
