Felt for him,saw his interview afterwards and he was in complete bits. Really open interview so soon after being pipped, you could see how much it meant to him. This is what real sportsmen should be like, not rolling around on the floor for 2 minutes pretending your injured, trying to get an opponent sent off ! Malbec's gone now,and so's my head. Good night, morning all.
Well done GB hockey, that was my sport when younger...and we'll done Hinch....Hockey has always been a totally brilliant 100 mph sport .....that was my real sport when younger...and guess what position I played.....correct GK.... Have to say 50 years ago we had none of the protective gear they have now....perhaps they didn't hit so hard
Shame there is no Aussie Rules in the Olympics. I'm sure we could cobble a squad together and beat the ockers in that too.
Now now, let's be humble Mr Podium-stalker. I see our Aussie lass won gold in a real Olympic sport, the swimming, shooting, running type thingy.
I'm a QPR supporter Aussie. I've been humble for 55 years, it's nice to try the other side at last. The Pom/Aussie rivalry is the best in sport, because it's conducted (largely) in good humour albeit with no feelings spared. And you know when you are down one day, it won't be long before things change. Tokyo could be good for you lot, kind time zone.
Congratulations and huge respect for Team GB, overhauling the London Games medal haul and with a very good chance of finishing above China. Truly outstanding, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching these games and it's largely because of the performance of the British competitors.
Just watched the re run of the mens 5000m. What an athlete Mo Farah is!! And I used to but his trousers years ago.
Certainly our 'Golden Generation', how many double champions have we here? And perhaps the most striking thing is how humble our winners are, it's great to be British at the moment...
Massive kudos to super Mo,has changed his whole training regime and ever since he's become unbeatable over the long distances. To sacrifice being with your young family for 6 months at a time,so that you can become the best at what you do,is proper dedication. To become a worldbeater, this is what you have to do. About 6 years ago I looked at him running and thought this guy's never gonna win anything, just goes to show that with the required drive you really can achieve anything ! Huge respect to Nicola Adams too, head and shoulders above any other female boxer at her weight.
There must be something in the air, another amazing British performance, not in the Olympics but in Moto GP, Cal Crutchlow has become the first British winner in the Premier class motorcycle racing since Barry Sheene in 1981. A fantastic performance beating the legendary Valentino Rossi in the Czech Grand Prix...
British Super Heavyweight Joyce robbed by judges, clearly won 1st and 3rd rounds but split decision went against him...
on a per capita basis new zealand would be fourth in the medal table should i get really bored later i will look up how far behind us australia is

Love that GB have done so well, and beaten China. I wonder where we would've finished if the full Russian squad (if they were all clean) had been present. Had a look at the events we won medals in, and don't think it would be too different if the Ruskies had been there... Gold Silver Bronze Total Great Britain & N. Great thanks Kiwi! Gratulere Norge! This way of calculating the table is underbar and should be the official way...
First of all, congratulations to GB for a fantastic effort and achieving in gaining more medals than previously. Please keep in mind though that Great Britain takes in four ? countries whilst Australia and New Zealand ride it out separately as individual nations. I would be very interested to know how the medal tally would look if Aussie and Kiwi joined forces, ( like we have in war times, ie : ANZACS) ...... and combined their tally. Maybe two other countries could join us to put us on par with GB. Now before anyone gets carried away, I'm just surmising and as I've already said, GB must be considered as exceeding their expectations, which is a very good achievement for any country. Unfortunately, the Australian team did not achieve expectations, for the second Olympics in a row.
