    However good he was as a manager, as a player he was as good if not better. Amazing scoring record until he got injured.

    Len Shackleton's chapter on the knowledge of the average football director was a classic. Imitated but never bettered.

    I think Mourinho must have modeled himself on this approach to management. Clough was brilliant.

    I had a friend who religiously followed Derby County and rarely missed a game and got to know Clough and many of the players. He was once travelling home by train after a heavy defeat by Chelsea. Walking down the corridor, he spotted Clough and a number of players in a compartment, he opened the door and asked, "What went wrong, Brian?" Clough replied, "You were ****ing there, weren't you? Gerry made a hasty exit.

    It must be said though, his treatment of Justin Fashanu was less than brilliant.

    That has been completely rubbished by other people who were there at the time. I cant help but feel that Saunders is using it for his after dinner speaking circuit as he pockets thousands from poking fun at a man's alcoholism.
