Just thinking back over the years of different styles and how football has changed, started me thinking about some hard but honest players we have had battling our cause, here are 4 from over the years that I loved to watch, perhaps you have some personal favourites?

    Bobby Kellard.....Midfield....1968 - 1970.

    Norman 'Bites your Legs' Hunter......Centre Back.....1976 - 1979

I'll start at the beginning of my City life and offer Ernie "Ginger" Peacock.
As hard as any I have ever seen and City all through his body.

Kellard was one of my first, just before the great Gerry Gow. Had a feeling Kellard went to Portsmouth or Leicester after us ?

Bobby Kellard was in the side when I first started going too- Gow was as hard as you can get, yet fair.Hunter would have to be the toughest overall I think.

It was an era of that type of player who wouldn't last 5 minutes today. I'm thinking here of Nobby Stiles, Dave MacKay and Ron Chopper Harris in particular.

I loved watching the Doc, similar in style to Gerry Gow in that he would go into a rolling maul with 4 opposition players and somehow come out the other end with the ball. Brilliant....!

'It was an era of that type of player who wouldn't last 5 minutes today'

They would adapt, there would be no other choice.
Hunter was also a tremendous footballer, leader, great in the air and was also, surprisingly for me a great passer.
The 'hardest' I've seen at AG ? Pound for pound there wasn't much between Hunter and Gow.

Agree 100%, Mike Thresher, one of citys all time hard men, along with Ginger Peacock.
