Back in the late 70's when Bristol City and Leeds United were in the old first division, and nearly every match kicked off at 3.0 on a Saturday, in order to avoid clashes with local rival supporters, all teams were paired by the fixture panel so that local rivals did not play at home at the same time e.g. Liverpool / Everton, Man U / Man C, Spurs /Arsenal, Nottm Forest / Derby, Birmingham / Aston Villa, Newcastle / Sunderland, Norwich / Ipswich etc. The two teams left at the end of the pairing were Bristol City and Leeds. So that is why Bristol City and Leeds never played at home at the same time... Not a lot of people know that.
