Abraham a doubt for QPR clash

Striker could miss trip to Loftus Road.
    • Abraham a concern for City heading to London
    • Striker was absent from training yesterday
    • Ekstrand has also been suffering with similar bug
Tammy Abraham could miss tomorrow night’s Sky Bet Championship match at QPR after his recent bout of illness.
Head coach Lee Johnson admitted he “gambled” on playing Abraham in the 2-1 defeat at Cardiff City on Friday.

Abraham, 19, had been suffering from sickness and diarrhoea in the build-up to the televised Severnside derby, and was withdrawn ten minutes from time.

Johnson said at his press conference ahead of the QPR game: “Tammy didn’t train yesterday (Sunday) so we’ll have to see how he is feeling.

“He had been suffering from the end of the England Under-21 game right up until the Friday match and it was touch and go whether we played him. It was a gamble.

“We’ll assess how he is. We have to look at the bigger picture too, as we have a lot of games coming up.”

City’s boss also reported a couple of bumps and bruises in the camp, but kept his cards close to his chest on which players were affected.

Adam Matthews and Korey Smith could be added to the squad after coming through last week’s Under-23 fixture.

Joel Ekstand, meanwhile, has only just returned to training after illness.

Obviously a big blow if Tammy's out - presumably Wilbraham will start, though possibly Engvall if fit. Though I think some fans are a bit OTT in writing Wilbraham off due to his age, I do think it's fair to say that as a starter in the Championship, he's not exactly ideal (as an impact sub, still useful). Will likely need our attacking midfielders to contribute for us to make an impact.

I've gone for a draw in this one, hopefully a better overall performance than what we witnessed on Friday

    Match facts
    • QPR are unbeaten in their last 12 home league games against the Robins (W7 D5).
    • Bristol City have only won one of their last 10 league games against the Hoops (D5 L4).
    • Current City manager Lee Johnson scored for the Robins against the Hoops in an August 2007 clash which ended 2-2.
    • The R's haven't won a league game at Loftus Road since the opening day of the 2016/17 season (D3 L2 since).
    • Tammy Abraham is the only player to have had a hand in 10 or more goals in the Championship this season (eight goals, two assists).
    • Massimo Luongo has made a league-high 44 tackles this season, which is at least 26 more than any of his QPR teammates.

    BBC Match Update..

QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo could return after being rested following international duty with Australia.

Defender Grant Hall (thigh) is a doubt for the R's, who have not won at Loftus Road in the Championship since beating Leeds on the opening day of the season.
Bristol City's top scorer Tammy Abraham is a doubt because of an illness.
Defender Joel Ekstrand has also been unwell but is expected to train with the rest of Lee Johnson's squad ahead of Tuesday's match.

    Sky Match Update..

QPR defender Grant Hall is a doubt for the visit of Bristol City.

Hall suffered a thigh injury during the first half of Saturday's 1-1 draw against Reading and will be assessed.
Steven Caulker came on in his place 10 minutes before half-time and could be recalled to the starting line-up if Hall misses out.

'Tammy fit and able to play a draw'
He played at Cardiff and we lost because Junior hung him out to dry.
Incredibly fortunate to have Tammy - We'd be in bottom 3 without him.
