KCOM should hang their heads in shame. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-40757817
Most of the others in the top 10 worst are very rural and thanks that as an excuse. Kcom really are poor.
Once they complete the lightstream rollout the monopoly will be well and truly in place. With business arms being sold off and other revenues falling they will be ever reliant on broadband income. Watch those prices folks with zero competition
why? they're in the process of fixing it. the only irritation for me is that in april last year the hdm said i'd be able to get lightstream in june or july last year and i won't get it until at least december this year. when i started getting karoo broadband it was 250kbps. it's now about 6mpbs or 24 times as fast, so i'm not complaining. most of the time it's fine.
They have almost no competition in Hull, but they do have competition in the surrounding areas, quite a lot of us have the option of switching to BT.
I only get 250 through ethernet cable - which is fine as I only really need it for streaming. It's usually circa 80 on wifi (even near the router). Am I missing something?
What router do you have? I have the Netgear Nighthawk and it gives me these speeds everywhere in the house. please log in to view this image
Theres a new company called connecthull rolling out fibreoptic, doing 250 streets in east hull, kingswood and sutton park last quarter of this year Im moving to them out of principle, had a letter from kc month or two ago with a price increase on my poor internet speed, absolute pisstake, youd think theyd discount all the customers who theyve not yet upgraded to faster services, i know theyve been fined for not rolling fibreoptic out quicker
How much do you pay a month ? If everybody got that speed there would be no problem , they obviously don't
Cheers. It's ZyXEL VDSL2 Gateway AC 1600 - it's the one that came with the Lightstream installation. So, if I bought a Netgear Nighthawk router would that be likely to increase to your wifi levels? Just googled it and they seem pricey mind.
Yeah, I replaced the standard router because I was getting speeds like yours. The main reason I swapped was due to problems with too many devices on the internet causing it to be slow. You can get a decent router for anywhere between £30 - £70. I'm not an expert on this stuff, so I can't say how much of an improvement it would have on yours. It depends on your house and position of your router etc. but it definitely helped mine.
I think mine's about £5 a month more than what I used to pay (for circa 10-12), can't remember exactly what I was paying before though, but it's roughly that. That's with up to 250 (through my ethernet) and a decent d/l allowance.
