There's somone here who I'd definitely ban if up to me, but he sucks up to the mods enough that he never will be. It just depends who you trash I guess as to how you're treated here. Fidel? I just checked, he died 25 November 2016.
If he had been here he would have pointed out that Einstein was wrong as has been recently shown. Einstein predicted that whenever light from a distant star passes by a closer object, gravity acts as a kind of magnifying lens brightening and bending the distant starlight. In 1936 he stated that " there is no hope of ever observing this phenomenon directly". He was wrong! Last Friday it was announced that an international research team had done just that thus giving a new confirmation of his Relativity Theory.
One of my favourites too. First encountered him on he Hull CityMad forum back in 2010 before he came here.
Castro registered a name change (to Castro's Coffin) when I changed my board name to Thatcher's Coffin (when the old leaderene died). I changed my name but he kept his...until Barchullona
Just to clarify what OLM posted above. It was clear that there was a personality clash between OLM and Bengals, and because of that, it was me that spoke to Bengals to try to get him to see what the issue was with his posts. We deleted posts of his that were largely designed to disrupt the board, and there was a fair amount done by PM, so it's possible that people don't have the complete picture. I couldn't get him to realise that we simply don't have the time or inclination to keep on deleting posts and explaining things to him, and he has to moderate himself. He was more than aware of the likely outcome of his style of posting, and given every opportunity to remain. In the end, he effectively banned himself by ignoring the advice, but as with all bans, it was a joint decision by the mods. I know it doesn't always come across that way, and we won't always get it right, but we do try as hard as we can to make sure what we do is for the good of the board, and not let our own personal issues sway us. At the end of the day, the differences between posters make the board more vibrant, so we really don't want to ban anyone unless we absolutely have no choice. Just to add, we're always happy to explain ourselves and our actions, and will accept and change things if the board feel we've got it wrong. It's not our board, it's yours.
Indeed. The first time that gravitational lensing has been observed around a star other than our own. Bengal's finest moment was declaring that black holes were a myth, one week before LIGO's first detection of gravitational waves.
Sadly, that comes across as a personal attack on OLM, rather than a factual reflection of what took place. Many of us tried to reason with BT, but he ignored it and was frequently irrational in his pettiness and he was constantly unprovoked, so his driver to adopt that style was far from obvious. A pity, as he obviously had much to offer to our board, although, except for the odd scientific challenge, it rarely came through the unpleasantness.
