Champions League draw 2017/18

Way too premature, but f**k it, revel in the fact for a moment that we are in it. Here are the Draw Pots -

 

How come Liverpool are shown in pot three? They have to qualify so should go into four, right?

Which makes it even more baffling to be perfectly honest!

 

Liverpool played in CL and had good run in Europa League

 

I completely forgot they reached the Europa league final last year!

You know why? Because they lost.

 

How ****ing nice it that we get to discuss the draw. I do love the champs league.

 

There's a few teams in pot 1 that I fancy getting. Would like to avoid juve Bayern and Madrid tho

 

They've been very lucky. Their UEFA ranking would normally see them straight into pot four, but Arsenal, Schalke, Leverkusen, Zenit, Valencia, Lyon, Fiorentina, Villareal, Bilbao, Galatasaray and Lazio have all missed out on the CL this year.

Even with all that they still only scrape into pot three by the skin of their teeth (assuming they get through the qualifying round of course)

 

As did you last season. Who put you out again?

 

That's not my point.

The point is the losers of finals are quickly forgotten.

In reality the teams you draw from Pot1 do not make any difference. It's the teams from Pots 3 and 4 who you have watched out for. By definition the teams from pot 1 will be tough and expected to progress but draw a tough team from either pot 3 or 4, progress into the knock stages will be tricky.

 

I wonder which teams the RS would like to meet from each pot?

Someone ****e like Celtic will probably dump them out in the qualifiers

Not really - if we get one of the easier ones like Benfica, Shaktar or Spartak then we are more likely to win the group and avoid Real, Juve, Bayern etc in the second round.

I'd say the teams from pot three and four are less important, as looking at that list there are no teams we should fear, or at least be able to beat at home and get a draw away. Napoli would be tough and Leipzig are an unknown factor, but the rest of them should be well within our capability to handle.

 

I'd like to take this opportunity to once again congratulate Liverpool on qualifying for the qualifying round and not wasting any of their season on trying to win a trophy.
