I went Friday for the third consecutive year... and had the week off for the festival as per. If you guys are into your horses I fully recommend taking in a day at the festival, great atmosphere and great Guinness. Real awful week punting wise compared to the last 2 years. Like @Royston i was about 250 down and all.

It's a great day out mate, isn't it.
I first went to the Festival in 1989. It was a very different day out in those days - you could move between the paddock and the betting ring and the course. Personally I think they are now letting too many people in and it is too congested.

If you haven't been by train, can I recommend it <laugh> from Paddington
    A real experience <laugh>

Yeah the half 8 to Chelt train. Everyone is in good spirits and plenty of beers. The train home is a **** though!
I'll probably look at doing the whole festival next year and stay down there.

If you are into your horses Tal I very strongly recommend the Dante Festival meeting in the middle of May £45 for the three days (plus B&B for 2 nights) and it's a right crack! If it's sunny the local females come out dressed as Essex Girls :emoticon-0152-heart
