Read a few weeks back that the Chinese government were going to clap down on the amount of overseas players coming in on silly money, looks like they have taken steps to do so.
Am the only one who thinks the Chinese stealing all these foreign players could be a good thing? Over a period of time it might mean more and more homegrown players get chances. The Chinese are doing exactly what the PL did in the ****ing first place.
Diego Costa: New rules in Chinese football scuppered deal says Tianjin Quanjian owner Tianjin Quanjian's bid to sign Diego Costa from Chelsea has been scuppered by new rules in the Chinese Super League, says club owner Shu Yuhui. Shu claims Tianjin had lined up moves for Spain international Costa, 28, and fellow forwards Karim Benzema, Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani. But Chinese clubs will only be able to field three foreign players per game when the new season starts. "This situation has brought a change to our signing plans," said Shu. Clubs could previously select four foreign players of any nationality and one Asian player in a matchday squad. From the start of the new season, in March, they must name two Chinese players aged under 23 in their matchday squads, with at least one in the starting XI. Shu said Tianjin would have made a "big investment" this year had the previous rule remained in place.
Just the same as what happened with the Prem , attracting averagely good players on silly money - boo hoo
Precisely. And Serie A in the late 80s early 90s. Its all in cycles and, therefore, anyone moaning about it, is a ****.
The problem now for these type of players is that they will have to play in a team with several Chinese players, which having been to 3 or 4 Chinese games in China are at best average championship players. These top players won't find it easy playing with them, because the quality of service will not be there.
They're hardly likely to give a flying one when they're earning seven million lunar dollars a second. They're not going there to develop their skills, are they?
These players are earning a fortune already, most want to win things that mean something, and play in a competitive league. Playing with second class players in a second rate league day in day out won't appeal with most IMO. It seems Yaya Toure is one of them.
Just a comment on Football in China, I have been here for 10 days mostly in Shanghai, there doesn't seem to me to be much hysteria going around about the beautiful game. I have stayed in the Holiday inn here and there is a big TV screen in the lounge area showing constant games, hardly any one watches. I haven't seen one person here in the 10 days wearing a football shirt of any kind or of a team. The average gate for games in the Chinese super league is around 22,000, even though the likes of Oscar/Tevez et al are playing, considering the population here it is minimal . What football players being here must think to constant pollution in the air, training and playing in it can't be a good for their health or an attraction for themselves and the families. Of cause the money is the attraction, but most players are secure enough financial, so for me cannot see the attraction.
Why is it so widely accepted that having more foreign players means homegrown ones don't get a chance? I don't understand why people think clubs particularly want to have less skillful foreign players over highly skilled homegrown ones. Surely if the homegrown ones don't play it's because they're not good enough. This applies to England, China or any other country.
Personally I agree with you, the fact that the for the EPL they are now taking the pick of the players from many countries makes the quality in the EPL overall better. This pushes down players that don't make it in the EPL, but British players generally have improved there technical ability IMO, and that has benefitted the Championship and lower leagues.
