The buy-out clauses really didn't end up causing us any problems at all, we got good fees for everyone who left, other than the two strikers that we were just happy to get off the wage bill. We'll offer new deals to Meyler and Elmo, probably also Davies, but we might well leave the rest to make the numbers look better when the club goes up for sale properly at the end of the season.
Syd never used to be this argumentative - the past 3 or 4 months have seen a much bolshier Syd. I blame the exchange rate going against him. Meanwhile, Godwin's Law cropped up pretty early on in this thread, didn't it? As for contracts, I bet Meyler and Elmo will be sorted soon. I'd imagine they'll offer Aluko a new one, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he turned it down and took a chance on winning the free agent lottery next summer. Huddlestone... anyone's guess. If things don't pick up for him, perhaps a cut-price January sale will be on the cards.
Because dipshit = dense. He'd also had a few goes at me first, I hadn't said anything derogatory to you.
I never used to be this argumentative because I used to be able to offer up opinions and not have my head bitten off. People criticise me for not backing down, but when I have admitted I was wrong I've copped abuse, which kind of leads me to not want to.
When I first joined I posted maybe once a week and mainly read posts, so no I wasn't. I think it all kicked off when I had a crack at Bruce's management style, and someone had a go at me for thinking he was anything less than the perfect manager. It's interesting, I post on another football forum - an Australian one - where people debate quite regularly, but at no point does personal abuse come into it. Maybe a difference between the Australian and English mentalities, but people on here seem a lot more aggressive, which makes me respond in kind.
Oh right. Back to the actual topic though, I hope we've started offering new deals to players to prevent the buy outs becoming more of an issue in January. (Which was my original point)
I sort of agree ( but don't bloody argue about it!) I assume new contracts will be offered to some, although I suspect the club may actually be fairly happy if some go, or at the very least will wait to see how players do for a couple of months before offering contracts to some
I've lived in Sydney for 15 years and I can tell you it has a much more aggressive undertone/culture than anywhere I lived in the UK
I would say the opposite, people in Australia are pretty easy going in general. I've never for a second felt threatened when going to a sporting even and giving an opposition supporter a bit of ****, whilst I've felt much more threatened in England.
A release clause with an expiry date is a release clause with an expiry date, it will not apply after the expiry date.
